Summary

This position provides evaluation and assessment of substance abusers to determine an appropriate course of intervention. The Counselor is responsible for providing individual and group treatment sessions to offenders in need of such services. Referrals shall be accepted from the CommunityCorrections staff, State Parole Officers, Court Services Officers, or other community referral sources. This position is under the supervision of the Director of Community Corrections and/or his/her designee.

Evaluate and assess client needs and coordinate appropriate services

  • Interview and evaluate substance abusers upon referral using recognized assessment tools to determine if further counseling is warranted.
  • Coordinate referrals for services through the Rehabilitative Services Coordinator and referring supervision officer to ensure offenders needing services are placed in appropriate setting. Serve as agency liaison with inpatient treatment programs.
  • Collect information required to evaluate and assess needed services.
  • Track and submit required billing

Conduct individual and group counseling/therapy sessions; develop and maintain appropriate documentations

  • Conduct individual and group counseling sessions in accordance with KDADS standards.
  • Develop and maintain client files. This may include developing treatment plans, maintaining progress reports, providing feedback on client treatment performance, and compiling statistic data as necessary.
  • Work with other staff members and outside agencies to address client needs.

Manage and maintain programs, policies, and procedures; complete additional support functions as required.
