Job description

The Public Building Authority (PBA) is a joint public, non-profit organization created by Knox County and the City of Knoxville to develop, construct, manage, and maintain a wide range of public facilities and services on their behalf. PBA oversees major construction projects, provides long-term property and grounds management for millions of square feet of buildings—including city and county facilities, parks, and parking garages—and even handles security, telecommunications infrastructure and on-street parking operations throughout the community. Governed by an 11-member board appointed by county and city leaders, the PBA works to deliver cost-effective, professional facility services that support local government operations and enhance public spaces for residents and visitors alike.

Due to continued growth, PBA is seeking Safety & Security Officers to join our City Parks Security team. This position reports to the Director of Security and plays a key role in ensuring the safety of the public, tenants and staff at PBA managed park properties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists with providing continuous surveillance of assigned facility.
  • Provides continual inspection of safety and security on PBA properties.
  • Reports concerns to immediate supervisor or appropriate PBA staff member(s) on an on-going basis.
  • Ensures that proper security and life safety measures are provided for the public and the building tenants.
  • Provides assistance and information to members of the public and building tenants.
  • Patrols assigned buildings, streets, parks, and garages of PBA-managed facilities to ensure no safety or security concerns are present.
  • Investigates and reports accidents and/or incidents that occur on PBA-managed properties.

Safety officers for the City Parks department can choose between two shifts and work a four on-three off schedule. Shift differential is provided for those on second shift.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Must have no felony convictions. Must have no misdemeanor convictions that would compromise the mission of the Public Building Authority.
  • Must have a current Tennessee driver’s license.
  • This is an entry level position; training will be provided.

Why Join PBA?

Full-time team members enjoy an outstanding benefits package, including:

  • 13 paid holidays.
  • Generous time off and sick leave accrual.
  • Comprehensive County health insurance through Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
  • 401(a) retirement plan with a 6% employer match.
  • County funded life insurance (1.5x salary up to $50,000).
  • Uniform allowance.
  • An excellent work environment.

Qualified candidates should reply with a resume and cover letter containing salary requirements.
