Job Summary
We are seeking qualified applicants for the Head Lifeguard position. Under the direction of the designated supervisor, monitors aquatic activities to ensure participant safety and performs rescues as necessary for water sports or pool environments for participants and facility users of all ages and backgrounds. Assists in training lifeguards and maintaining records. An ideal candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, patience, a customer-oriented approach, problem-solving abilities, teamwork, and effective communication skills. PRCS serves a diverse population, including but not limited to youth, adults, individuals with disabilities, and seniors.
We are currently hiring for the following location(s):
  • Dulles South Recreation & Community Center, South Riding, VA
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Maintains the operation of pools.
  • Manages conditions of pool water.
  • Monitors safe use of pools by patrols.
  • Schedules aquatics programs and activities.
  • Sets up the pool for varied programs and use.
  • Assists individuals in distress by employing rescue methods and equipment; communicates with emergency medical services in the event of severe injuries; administers emergency care and treatment as necessary.
  • May carry out additional critical job responsibilities that are specific to the role and departmental assignment.
    *Work hours vary: Monday through Friday, 4:30 a.m.-9:45 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 7:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.*
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.
This position is eligible for a $3,000 hiring bonus in accordance with the County's Hiring and Retention Bonus Program.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; one (1) year of aquatics experience inclusive of aquatics programming, pool facility management, and working with the public, groups, and organizations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Understanding of lifeguarding monitoring and rescue methods.
  • Understanding fundamental first aid techniques is essential for addressing injuries that may arise in a pool setting.
  • Skill in swimming and applying lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
  • Ability to physically make rescues as required.
  • Familiarity with swimming pool tools and the correct chemical composition for pools.
Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
Successful candidates must:
  • Undergo background checks, including criminal, credit, and DMV, and reference checks.
  • Hold Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, First Aid Certification, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification within the required timeframes.
  • Hold a Loudoun County-approved Pool Operator's License.
