Job Summary Work under the supervision of the Community Services Director to provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment in the City's parks, sports facilities, and open spaces, and communicate effectively and courteously about parks, projects, events and/or maintenance related items, while providing the highest level of service possible to all customers. Examples of Duties Collaborate with crew leaders, other departmental employees, and other city departments to schedule park and athletic field maintenance as well as mowing, landscape, and irrigation maintenance of medians, right-of-ways, greenbelts, and other city facilities. Supervise parks division personnel in the performance of various park and facility maintenance assignments.

Operate independently to troubleshoot and prioritize park maintenance issues and find solutions that are cost effective and efficient. Maintain records of parks, athletics, and greenbelt maintenance operations; prepare reports utilizing Power BI software as needed. Perform employee evaluations, document employee deficiencies, counsel and provide employee improvement plans, when necessary.

Manage parks division recruitment, hiring, and dismissal processes. Manage timecard systems as required by the human resource and payroll department. Oversee management of work order system and administration.

Manage the input and upkeep of GIS assets through ArcGIS applications. Plan and prepare the annual operating budget for the parks division operations; forecast project and equipment costs for capital improvements program (CIP). Track staff's continuing education credits and certifications; properly budget for training.

Coordinate procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies to complete assigned tasks; review and prepare payment authorizations and purchase orders for parks division expenditures. Read plan sets and provide park department input as part of development review committee. Prepare requests for proposals and bid specifications as needed to manage contracts, coordinate repairs, or receive services or equipment.

Prepare information and give written and oral presentations relating to bid awards, park maintenance issues, completed projects, and other items at city council, Community Development Corporation, and other public meetings. Attend monthly Community Development Corporation meetings. Identify and incorporate best practices for employee safety and motivation; obtain information and training on current products, practices, technology and trends in the parks maintenance/irrigation industry.

Work extended hours and flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays if needed. Respond to emergency call-outs after hours as needed. Communicate quickly, effectively, and courteously with public, vendors, contractors, customers, staff, in writing, via the internet, and by phone.

May be required to perform other department duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications Our ideal candidate will possess the following: Experience with maintenance of parks, sports turf, trails, landscape, and irrigation systems Knowledge of operating various types of tractors, field groomers, mowers, and equipment needed for maintenance operations Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds Ability to work in inclement weather conditions Ability to supervise, train, and motivate staff Ability to manage and properly prioritize multiple ongoing tasks in a fast-paced environment Good oral and written communication skills with public and all levels of staff Strong organizational and leadership skills, creativity, and initiative Knowledge of project management, budgeting, strategic planning and current trends in the parks and recreation industry Ability to adapt to new applications quickly and provide clear user training and documentation Ability to calmly manage high pressure and stressful situations with employees, customers, and operations Education and Experience Required Bachelor's Degree and 5+ years of supervisory experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience in parks and recreation or related field Valid Texas Driver's License Must complete an 8 hour TDA approved chemical pesticides certification class for application of herbicides under the supervision of one of the department's licensed pesticide applicators, unless currently licensed under TDA Any combination of two relevant certifications/licenses including, but not limited to: Irrigation license Certified Playground Safety Inspector ISA certification TDA chemical applicator license Aquatic Facility Operator Certified Pool Operator Certified Park and Recreation Professional
