Job description

Summary / Objective:
  • This is a skilled grounds maintenance position. A position in this class performs a variety of tasks in the care and maintenance of parks and sports fields. Work includes the operation and routine maintenance of power-equipment and repairs to recreational and related facilities and equipment. A position in this class reports directly to a supervisory position.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Operates powered equipment, trim grass; services power equipment by changing oil, lubricating and adjusting as necessary; maintains hand tools by cleaning, drying and storing properly.
  • Applies trade related pesticides and fertilizers as directed.
  • Maintains grounds; rake leaves, picks up litter and keeps areas tidy and in good appearance; clears ditches and removes brush from trails and pathways.
  • Performs repair work at park facilities; cleans and maintains facilities and equipment associated with assigned area.
  • Maintains irrigation systems by replacing valves, repairing broken water pipelines; performs repair work and cleans and maintains facilities and equipment associated with assigned area.
  • Use chainsaws to fell and buck trees. Use chippers to remove branches.
  • Remove snow and ice, by shoveling, plowing, or applying deicer.
  • Performs other work as assigned.

Requirements and Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma required
  • Must possess a valid PA driver's license
  • Must have, or obtain a Category 23 Certified Pesticide Applicators License within one year of hire.
  • Six months experience in grounds maintenance work.
  • Basic knowledge of methods, techniques, materials and equipment used in grounds maintenance work.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, and work well with others.
  • Ability to work out-of-doors in all climatic conditions.
  • Occasional Evening/Weekend/Holiday hours will be required.
