Parcel Manager information

What does a parcel manager do?

A Parcel Manager oversees the operations and logistics related to parcel shipments within a company or organization. Their responsibilities include managing the receipt, dispatch, and tracking of packages, ensuring timely deliveries, and coordinating with courier services. They also handle inventory management, customer inquiries, and may supervise a team of logistics staff. Parcel Managers play a crucial role in optimizing shipping processes, reducing costs, and maintaining high customer satisfaction levels.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a parcel manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Parcel Manager, you need strong organizational skills, experience in logistics or supply chain management, and often a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), inventory software, and tracking technologies is typically required. Excellent leadership, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are valuable soft skills for managing teams and coordinating deliveries. These skills and qualities are essential for ensuring efficient parcel handling, timely deliveries, and high customer satisfaction in a fast-paced environment.

What are the common challenges faced by a parcel manager and how can they be addressed?

Parcel Managers often face challenges such as coordinating timely deliveries, managing fluctuating shipment volumes, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. To address these, strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities are essential. Effective communication with drivers, warehouse staff, and customers helps resolve issues proactively, while leveraging logistics software can streamline tracking and scheduling. Continuous process improvement and team training also play a key role in overcoming operational hurdles.

Build products that turn logistics data, analytics, and AI into customer value and scalable revenue.
At Green Mountain Technology, we help large, complex shippers reduce costs, improve customer delivery experiences, and create sustainable competitive advantages through technology, analytics, and logistics expertise. We are seeking a Product Manager to lead the identification, definition, development, launch, and scaling of innovative products that expand Green Mountain Technology's market presence and revenue streams. This role will be responsible for conducting market research, shaping product strategy, defining product requirements, leading product launches, and driving adoption of logistics-focused data monetization and AI-enabled solutions.
The ideal candidate brings strong product management experience, logistics industry knowledge, and a proven ability to take products from concept through launch and adoption. This role will partner closely with executive leadership, sales, consulting, operations, engineering, data science, and client stakeholders to create products that solve meaningful customer problems and generate predictable, scalable revenue growth.
What You'll Do
  • Lead product discovery, definition, development, launch, and adoption for logistics-focused data, analytics, SaaS, and AI-enabled products.
  • Collaborate with consulting and client delivery teams to identify recurring customer challenges that can be transformed into scalable product offerings.
  • Translate consulting insights, customer feedback, audit findings, and market opportunities into product concepts, requirements, user stories, business cases, and acceptance criteria.
  • Conduct market, competitor, and customer research to identify new product opportunities across logistics, transportation, freight audit, parcel, supply chain, and AI markets.
  • Quantify market size, revenue potential, competitive positioning, pricing strategies, and product monetization opportunities.
  • Partner with sales leadership to develop product positioning, value propositions, go-to-market strategies, product demonstrations, ROI models, training materials, and customer presentations.
  • Act as the voice of the customer through interviews, surveys, advisory boards, feedback sessions, and customer discovery activities.
  • Define customer success metrics and monitor product adoption, engagement, retention, satisfaction, revenue, and profitability.
  • Establish and maintain product documentation, requirements repositories, roadmaps, knowledge libraries, and repeatable frameworks for product development and market research.
  • Identify product, technology, market, regulatory, operational, AI, data privacy, security, and governance risks throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Partner with engineering, data, and delivery teams to validate functionality, user experience, quality standards, and post-launch performance.
  • Lead innovation initiatives focused on logistics, transportation, supply chain, data, analytics, AI, automation, and advanced analytics.
  • Build product strategies, business cases, financial models, pricing, packaging, and commercialization approaches that create scalable recurring revenue streams.
  • Influence and align cross-functional teams across product, consulting, operations, sales, technology, engineering, data science, and customer-facing groups.

What You'll Bring
  • 7+ years of product management experience leading products from concept through launch and market adoption.
  • 5+ years of experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, freight audit, parcel management, or related industries.
  • Proven success identifying market opportunities and translating customer needs into products that deliver measurable customer and business value.
  • Experience launching, scaling, and commercializing data, analytics, SaaS, or AI-enabled products.
  • Strong understanding of product strategy, market analysis, customer discovery, product monetization, pricing, go-to-market strategy, and product lifecycle management.
  • Knowledge of logistics operations, carrier management, shipping economics, transportation networks, and supply chain processes.
  • Strong influencing, leadership, presentation, communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to solve complex business problems, manage multiple priorities, and drive execution across cross-functional teams.
  • Experience partnering with engineering and technology teams to successfully deliver product initiatives.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and a hands-on approach, with the ability to manage diverse responsibilities and drive results across multiple business functions.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to communicate effectively with senior executives, customers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain/Logistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in parcel transportation, freight audit, carrier management, supply chain technology, or customer-facing consulting environments preferred.
  • Experience developing subscription-based business models, pricing strategies, and product monetization approaches preferred.
  • Experience bringing AI-enabled products to market, including customer use-case development, commercialization planning, and adoption strategies preferred.
  • Working knowledge of artificial intelligence, machine learning, predictive analytics, and generative AI solutions preferred.
  • Experience commercializing proprietary data, analytics, benchmarking, or information services preferred.
  • MBA or other advanced degree preferred.
