What is a paraprofessional agency?

A paraprofessional agency is an organization that recruits, trains, and assigns paraprofessionals—also known as teacher aides or instructional assistants—to work in educational settings such as schools or special education programs. What are the typical responsibilities of a paraprofessional working through an agency, and how do assignments vary?

Paraprofessionals employed by agencies often support teachers and students in various educational settings, such as public schools or special education programs. Assignments can range from assisting with classroom management and individualized instruction to supporting students with special needs, depending on the client school’s requirements. The work environment is dynamic, as paraprofessionals may be placed in different schools or classrooms, giving them exposure to diverse teaching styles and student populations. Flexibility and adaptability are key, as assignments may change weekly or even daily based on district needs.
