Overview

Responsibilities
  • Carries out a treatment plan in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintains clear communication with the attending physician, ED nursing and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Assists In care delivery to include:
    • Taking vital signs, reporting deviation of normal vital signs
    • Perform point of care testing
    • Perform EKG
    • Perform venipuncture & IV insertion
    • Collect lab specimens
    • Assist nursing staff with ED processes during transport downtime (admission, triage, etc .... )
    • Participate as a driver for the USA Southstar ambulance
    • Promote patient safety and & family centered care
    • Assist with maintaining a well stock orderly environment on the ambulance
    • Document appropriately in the electronic medical record.
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.


Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • graduate of an EMT-Paramedic course and 1 year paramedic experience. Required
  • Licensed as a paramedic in the state of Alabama Required
  • ACLS Required or
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support Required
  • DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State Possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama may be required for some positions. Required
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
