Example of Duties
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Drive a bus to transport passengers to their destinations using designated routes in accordance with time schedules and Department regulations.
  2. Maintain daily pre-trip for buses.
  3. Maintain daily passenger logs.
  4. Inform Transit Manager when bus is in need of maintenance.
  5. Wash and maintain buses.
  6. Ensure in-service hours are met.
  7. Assist in preparation for annual CHP inspection.
  8. Fill in for Dispatcher when needed.
  9. Willing to work any shift as needed.
  10. Prompt notification to Transportation Manager/Director for any incidents that occur.
  11. Maintain CDL license good standing and uphold CA Commercial Driver Handbook.

Typical Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High School diploma or GED certificate.
  2. Knowledge of safe driving practices; knowledge of the provisions of the California Vehicle Code; ability to drive a bus safely and efficiently; ability to maintain order among the public; ability to recognize malfunctions in equipment and take appropriate action; ability to learn a designated bus route, including stops and traffic hazards; ability to maintain simple records; ability to follow written and oral directions; and ability to work cooperatively with others.
  3. Submit to pre-employment and random drug testing.
  4. Possess a current General Public Para-transit Certificate
  5. Possess a certificate of Transit Training (DL260A) for the Transit Driver.
  6. Requisite reading, mathematical, written language, and verbal skills in order to perform the essential functions of the job as listed in Section VIII.
  7. Possess a valid Class B (air brakes) California driver's license with passenger endorsement and a driving record acceptable to the Department's insurance underwriter.
  8. Possess a current Department of Transportation Medical Certificate

Position is eligible for benefits in accordance with City policy.
