Join a leading paperboard manufacturing facility as the Area Manager โ€“ Paper Machine 1 & 6. In this pivotal leadership role, you will oversee the daily operations of two essential paper machines, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production. Responsibilities
  • Oversee daily operations of Paper Machines 1 & 6, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency targets are consistently achieved
  • Develop and implement processes to promote safety engagement and maintain an injury-free workplace
  • Lead, mentor, and train paper machine personnel, fostering a proactive and collaborative work culture
  • Champion compliance and drive continuous improvement initiatives within the paper machines and the broader mill organization
  • Drive performance improvements in productivity, uptime, product quality, and reduction of rejects
  • Lead capital improvement projects, from identifying needs through to successful project completion
  • Collaborate with planning teams to optimize machine schedules and grade structure
  • Work with vendors to enhance machine reliability and achieve operational targets
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, implement process improvements, and serve as a technical resource for the team
  • Review, update, and create standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure best practices
  • Monitor weekly work schedules and manage department vacation allocations
  • Promote positive employee relations by administering labor contracts and addressing employee queries
  • Establish and monitor reporting procedures to ensure production and quality standards are met
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams to prioritize short- and long-term maintenance needs
  • Develop and implement methods to reduce operational costs, including raw materials and machine clothing
  • Provide periodic weekend duty coverage and off-hour troubleshooting assistance as needed
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by management
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in paperboard or paper machine operations, with a strong focus on safety and quality
  • Demonstrated leadership and team development skills
  • Experience driving process improvements and managing capital projects
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external vendors
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Experience with SAP, ParcView, Pi, or Panther is a plus
  • Willingness to provide weekend duty coverage and off-hour support as required
