What You'll Do (Essential Duties & Responsibilities)
As a key member of the mill operational team, you will co-manage our chemical infrastructure from concept to execution. Your day-to-day will include:
  • Innovate & Optimize: Design, run, and evaluate chemical trials to improve performance, alongside designing and installing cutting-edge chemical equipment.
  • System Ownership: Manage and maintain robust chemical delivery systems and raw material inventories.
  • Financial Impact: Monitor, report, and optimize chemical costs to drive mill efficiency.
  • Culture of Safety: Uphold and champion the highest safety standards across all chemical areas.
  • Empower the Team: Monitor laboratory equipment and train operators on technical and chemical concepts to build a stronger crew.

What You Bring to the Table
Education & Experience:
  • Degree: Bachelor of Science (4-year) in Pulp and Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related technical field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in Paper Mill Chemistry or Chemical Technical Service (Direct Paper Mill experience is highly preferred).

Skills & Core Competencies:
  • Technical Expertise: A strong foundation in chemistry, process engineering, and papermaking chemistry.
  • Analytical Problem Solving: Ability to use college-level algebra, geometry, and calculus to troubleshoot process, equipment, and quality issues.
  • Aptitude: Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude combined with robust computer literacy (including Microsoft Office).
  • Communication: Excellent English verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for team training.

Preferred Certifications:
  • Forklift Operator Certificate
  • Manlift Operator Certificate

Work Environment & Physical Demands
This is a true boots-on-the-ground engineering role. To be successful, you should be comfortable with the following:
  • The Floor: Spending about 65% of your day on the production floor in a fast-paced, hot, and noisy industrial manufacturing environment (hearing protection required).
  • Safety First: Regularly working with and managing hazardous chemicals safely.
  • Physical Agility: Regularly standing, walking, reaching, and lifting/moving up to 50 pounds. Visual acuity (color, depth perception, focus) is critical for lab and trial evaluations.
  • Flexibility: Participating in a regular on-call rotation schedule within the chemical department to support continuous mill operations.
