Job description

The Preschool Teacher Assistant enthusiastically represents the YMCA by displaying a positive attitude, maintaining a high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job through the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.ย  Under supervision of the classroom head teacher or director, the Preschool Teacherโ€™s Assistant shall assist in the implementation of the Preschool daily schedule and program.

  • Assists Classroom Teacher in providing a positive and safe learning environment; Assists in the implementation of acceptable age and developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques (in consultation with the Teacher).
  • Responsible for the health and safety of the children in our program at all times.
  • Assist with greeting families at the main child care entrance, greeting and signing in students into the platform on iPad, and checking identification for anyone you do not recognize.
  • Encourages children to maintain focus and involvement during teacher instruction time.
  • Administers small group activities such as games, art and stories.
  • Assists with lunches and snack time routine.
  • Supervises children in gym/outdoor activities and during naptime.
  • Assists teacher in the preparation of materials and daily activities for the children.
  • Assists children with diaper changing/toileting needs in the event of bathroom accidents.
  • Maintains cleanliness and orderly appearance of the classroom and facility.
  • Understands and implements all emergency plans and procedures of your classroom and facility.
  • Ensures that the children are signed in and out properly on a daily basis.
  • Ensures that the children are released only to the custodial parent/guardian or person authorized by the custodial parent/guardian.
  • Responsible for keeping supplies well-stocked (i.e. toilet paper, paper towels, soap, plates, snack, etc.). Notifies Teacher when supplies are low.
  • At least 16 years of age.
  • High school education is mandatory.
  • Must have the ability to work well with children in close cooperation with the teacher.
  • Must acquire working papers.
