Job description

A qualified Extruder Operator has knowledge of the extrusion line and accessory equipment, is capable of setting up and operating the extruder to insulate bare wire conductors, both stranded and solid, of various sizes. The operator understands and performs all tasks in conformance with technical instruction sheets, posted general instructions, verbal instructions, and completes required documentation. The operator is expected to monitor for and detect faulty machine operation, defective materials and/or process problems and communicate to the supervisor.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
1) Demonstrate a working knowledge of the extrusion line/equipment, including control panel(s), payoffs, takeups/traversing systems, capstans, spark testers, wire troughs, compound feed hoppers and wire accumulators or tensioning systems.
2) Mount payoff reels, thread conductor through tensioners, wire accumulators, tensioning systems, metering capstans, head, wire troughs to takeups. Ensure proper selection of tips, dies and print wheel (if required).
3) Set gears, ratios and heats to required specifications.
4) Set any marker tapes, separator tapes or adhesives as specified.
5) Attend to machine during operation, making adjustments to tension, line speed, O.D. and center as necessary. Change payoff and takeup reels as required.
6) Perform extrusion line tasks in conformance with manufacturing instruction sheets (MIT), Quality checklist, the safe work practice summary and the process setup sheets. Verify conductor size, number of strands, lengths and required insulating compounds are correct.
7) Complete workcenter documentation, including OD/wall charts, compound lot records, length sheets, traveler reel tags, traceability sheets/tags and labor reporting sheets.
These are the general duties required to fulfill the Extruder Operator job description, not a detailed description of all work required. New duties and responsibilities may be required to meet the changing demands of the business.
This is a 2nd (3pm-11pm) M-F position.
