Job Title: Paint Team Lead – 2nd Shift

Job Description

The Paint Team Lead oversees a team of 5 or more painters on the 2nd shift, ensuring high-quality preparation, painting, foaming, and finishing of HVAC systems and components. This role combines hands-on industrial painting expertise with leadership responsibilities, including coaching, training, and coordinating work in a clean, air-conditioned, and highly organized manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, supervise, coach, and train a team of 5+ painters on the 2nd shift.
  • Oversee the preparation, painting, foaming, and finishing of HVAC systems and components to ensure high-quality results.
  • Design and develop painting systems and procedures for HVAC projects, selecting appropriate coatings for different materials and environments.
  • Coach and mentor Painter 1 and Painter 2 team members, providing guidance, training, and support to develop their skills.
  • Inspect HVAC components and systems to determine the best approach for painting, including surface preparation, coating selection, and application techniques.
  • Manage and coordinate painting schedules to ensure timely completion of projects and effective use of resources.
  • Perform complex painting tasks, including intricate detailing, high-durability coatings, and protective finishes.
  • Conduct quality control inspections to ensure finished surfaces meet aesthetic, functional, and durability requirements.
  • Ensure all painting work complies with company quality standards, environmental regulations, and safety protocols.
  • Maintain, clean, and troubleshoot painting equipment and spray systems, performing preventive maintenance as needed to keep equipment operational.
  • Set up spray guns, mix paint correctly, and clean paint systems in an industrial automotive, truck, or boat spray setting.
  • Follow instructions and collaborate with more experienced painters when necessary to achieve optimal results.
  • Apply lean manufacturing guidelines and provide continuous improvement suggestions to increase efficiency and productivity.
  • Stay current with new painting technologies, materials, and industry best practices, implementing improvements as appropriate.
  • Wear and properly use required personal protective equipment and follow all safety procedures in the paint booth and shop.
  • Work consistently on the 2nd shift schedule (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM, Monday through Friday) and support voluntary overtime as needed.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of lead or management experience in a paint shop, body shop, or similar industrial painting environment.
  • Strong understanding of paint systems, including setting up spray guns, mixing paint, and cleaning paint systems in an industrial automotive, truck, or boat spray setting.
  • Hands-on experience working in a paint shop environment, painting daily while wearing a respirator and maintaining all equipment used.
  • Proficiency with industrial painting techniques, including paint preparation, masking, spray gun operation, truck or boat painting, and application of protective coatings.
  • Knowledge of painting techniques, coatings, and finishes, with strong attention to detail and the ability to deliver high-quality, durable results.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications related to painting, coatings, and HVAC components.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills for paint application, equipment issues, and process improvements.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations, environmental controls, and PPE requirements in industrial painting environments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in Spanish.
  • Physical ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds, stand and walk for extended periods, and stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb portable ladders as required.
  • Good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination for precise and consistent paint application.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive, truck, boat, or industrial body shop environments.
  • Bg in leading teams as a lead, supervisor, foreman, or manager in a paint or body shop setting.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices.
  • Experience conducting quality control inspections and documenting results.
  • Ability to maintain a clean, organized work area and care for modern paint equipment.
  • Interest in staying updated on new paint technologies, materials, and industry best practices.

Why Work Here?

Employees work in better conditions than a typical body shop, with a very clean, air-conditioned, and organized facility and consistent 2nd shift hours. Voluntary overtime is available for those who want it, while maintaining work-life balance for those who do not. The organization is heavily invested in paint equipment and aims to be an industry leader in painting, treating the paint function as a core priority rather than an afterthought. Team members can grow into leadership roles and specialty training as the company continues to expand and significantly increase production volume. Employees benefit from a competitive total rewards package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan, an employee assistance program, and paid time off. The environment is dynamic, fast-growing, and entrepreneurial, with internal promotion encouraged and recognized. The facility is modern and state-of-the-art, uses industry 4.0 technology, supports a green industry transformation, and includes electric charging stations. The culture emphasizes inclusivity, diversity friendliness, openness to change, and collaborative teamwork.
