Commercial Project Manager – Commercial Painting

About the Role

This is a field-based construction/trades project management role requiring hands-on experience with jobsite operations, equipment, and commercial projects.
CertaPro Painters is seeking a Commercial Project Manager to help expand our commercial painting presence throughout the Chicagoland area. This is a hybrid role designed for someone who can confidently manage job-site project execution and support business development efforts. As a key part of our commercial team, you'll support field-based project management and account building with property managers, facility directors, schools, HOAs, and business owners, helping open doors for the commercial team to bid and produce various commercial painting projects.
You’ll estimate projects, walk buildings, support scopes, attend client meetings, and then take ownership of projects through completion. The focus: high-quality execution, accurate planning, clear communication, and a great customer experience.
If you have real jobsite experience, know how projects run, and enjoy building relationships with facility leaders and property managers, this could be a strong long-term fit.
What You’ll Do
Project Management

  • Manage commercial jobs from post-sale through completion.
  • Lead onsite coordination, including site walks, progress checks, safety alignment, and client updates.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and crews; ensure quality and schedule adherence.
  • Manage equipment and logistics (lifts, swing stages, materials, inspections).
  • Oversee change orders, job costing, margin protection, and closeout packages.
Estimating & Technical Support
  • Partner with Commercial Account Manager for commercial estimating.
  • Participate in walkthroughs, scope development, and bid strategy.
  • Build estimates using CertaPro tools and industry standards.
  • Support pre-construction planning, material specifications, and vendor coordination.
Client Relations & Business Development Support
  • Join client meetings with the Commercial Account Manager to provide technical insight.
  • Develop strong relationships with facility managers, property managers, and GC partners.
  • Support commercial business development initiatives (light outreach, relationship nurturing).
  • Represent the company professionally onsite and during client interactions.

What You’ll Bring
Applicants must have hands-on experience in commercial construction, painting/coatings, facilities, or building services. Corporate-only project management backgrounds will not be a match.

  • 3–7+ years in commercial painting, construction, facilities, or related project management.
  • Strong understanding of equipment, jobsite logistics, safety, and trades coordination.
  • Comfortable estimating commercial scopes (or able to learn quickly).
  • Confident walking into a room with GCs, FMs, or property managers.
  • Able to partner with sales without ego — collaborative, team-centric personality.
  • Strong communication and organization skills.
  • Willingness to be onsite daily as needed; occasional after-hours or early AM for commercial work.
Compensation & Benefits

  • $60,000–$90,000 total earnings (base + commission)
  • High performers earn $110,000+ annually
  • Guaranteed base pay plus performance-based incentives for qualified opportunities and booked projects
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Health insurance
  • Company vehicle or mileage reimbursement
  • iPhone and iPad provided
  • Flexible schedule and regional travel
  • Training and professional development opportunities
