Job description

Job Title: Product Engineer Department: 20-Engineering

Reports To: Design Engineering Manager FLSA Status: Exempt

Location: Bement, IL Pay Range: $70K-$85K

Days: 7am-3:30pm

Job Summary:

The Product Engineer serves as a key technical resource supporting both new product development and existing product lines. This role requires strong attention to detail in design, documentation, and execution to ensure products meet performance, cost, and reliability goals throughout their lifecycle. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple projects thoughtfully, taking ownership and driving them to completion through sound engineering judgment and collaboration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide applications technical support to internal and external customers regarding filtration performance, compatibility, installation, and troubleshooting.

Translate customer application needs (flow rate, pressure, contaminant type, efficiency, compatibility) into clear engineering specifications.

Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, and supporting documentation in accordance with company standards and industry best practices.

Assist in conceptualizing, designing, prototyping, and testing filtration products and related components.

Plan and execute APQP activities for new products, including DFMEA, design verification, prototype evaluations, and launch readiness coordination with Manufacturing, Quality, and Suppliers.

Generate and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs), Routings, Items, and SKU data within the ERP system (Microsoft Business Central).

Assist design and development efforts for new and existing products, balancing function, manufacturability, cost, and quality requirements.

Conduct engineering analysis related to pressure drop, flow dynamics, structural integrity, thermal effects, and contaminant loading for filtration designs.

Create and maintain technical documentation including service bulletins, material specifications, product data sheets, drawings, and compliance documentation.

Assist with processing Engineering Change Requests (ECRs), deviations, and product updates.

Participate in design reviews of product development programs presenting recommendations based on test data, customer requirements, or regulatory considerations.

Drive continuous improvement in product design, performance, and cost efficiency.

Work independently to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple concurrent projects, maintaining progress with support from leadership as needed.

Travel Required:

Minimal – Potential when supporting operations of alternate production locations.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or a related Engineering discipline (or recent graduate), or equivalent practical experience welcome.

Internship, academic projects, or career experience in product design, manufacturing engineering, or a related technical area.

Working knowledge of CAD software (e.g., SOLIDWORKS) and basic understanding of GD&T principles.

Exposure to the product development lifecycle (from concept/design through prototyping, validation, and production) gained through coursework, projects, or experience.

Foundational understanding of manufacturability, materials, and assembly processes, with a willingness to learn and grow.

Experience with metal component manufacturing processes, including castings, stampings, and machining, with an understanding of their design considerations and tolerances.

Experience working within an ERP environment (Microsoft Business Central) to manage product data and revisions.

Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

Demonstrated problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Motivated and able to work independently while using good judgement and a willingness to make decisions.

Physical Requirements

May require standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 25 lbs. and 50 lbs. occasionally.

Work may occur in both office and manufacturing environments with exposure to shop conditions.

Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
