Paid Relocation information

What does paid relocation mean in a job offer?

Paid relocation refers to when an employer offers to cover some or all of the expenses associated with moving to a new location for a job. This can include costs such as moving household goods, travel expenses, temporary housing, and sometimes even assistance with finding a new home. The specific benefits and amounts covered vary depending on the company and the position. Paid relocation is often offered to attract talent from outside the local area or for positions that require specialized skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a paid relocation specialist role, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Paid Relocation Specialist, you need strong project management skills, attention to detail, and a background in human resources or logistics, often supported by a bachelor’s degree. Familiarity with relocation management software, expense tracking tools, and relevant HRIS systems is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills help you coordinate moves and support relocating employees effectively. These abilities ensure smooth transitions, cost-effective relocations, and high satisfaction for both employees and employers.

What are some common challenges employees face during a paid relocation, and how can they best prepare for them?

Employees undergoing paid relocation often encounter challenges such as adjusting to a new city, managing the logistics of moving, and acclimating to a different company culture or team. It's helpful to work closely with your employer’s relocation coordinator, ask detailed questions about what expenses are covered, and connect with future colleagues to ease your transition. Planning well in advance, researching your new area, and maintaining open communication with both HR and your new team can make the experience smoother and more successful.

Join the $4.6B SR 400 Express Lanes project in Atlanta-one of the largest roadway projects in the United States-delivered through a public-private partnership led by FlatironDragados and ACCIONA. This landmark infrastructure project includes the design, construction, long-term operation, and maintenance of the corridor for 50 years, transforming a critical route and supporting mobility in one of the nation's fastest-growing regions.

The Utility Relocation Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and execution of utility relocation activities within one of the project segments. This role requires strong leadership and stakeholder management skills to ensure that utility relocation works are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with all contractual and regulatory requirements

  • Collaborate with design and procurement teams to integrate utility requirements into the overall project scope, schedule, and contract documentation.
  • Facilitate pre-construction, task-specific, weekly, pre-walkthrough, and final walkthrough meetings with internal teams, subcontractors, and utility owners.
  • Prepare, review, and manage utility department budgets and supervise project scheduling and cost control to maintain alignment with milestones and client requirements.
  • Guide and mentor a multidisciplinary team, including surveyors, superintendents, and project engineers.
  • Monitor subcontractor performance, ensuring adherence to project scope, timelines, safety protocols, and quality standards.
  • Coordinate with city agencies, state authorities, and private utility companies to obtain permits, approvals, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain clear and effective communication with project owners, design consultants, and construction management teams to align expectations and proactively resolve issues.

  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in infrastructure projects, with at least 3 years in utility relocation management.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale design-build or P3 projects
  • Strong understanding of electrical, gas, telecom, and water/sewer utility systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, contracts, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with clients, subcontractors, and public agencies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills developed to engage and retain positive working relationships while effectively delegate task driven responsibilities to project personnel.
  • Proven ability to identify, track and manage project risk.
