Job Summary
This position supports GWCAES research/demonstration unit(s). Conducts research work including field and/ or laboratory study. Assist in data collection, curation, and analysis. Assists with the preparation of laboratory or field sites according to detailed instructions. Assists with inventorying and preparing requisitions for supplies as well as checks in shipments and restocks shelves/supply areas. Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity.
Essential Job Duties
  • Conducts non-routine experiments, investigations, and/or studies related to programs and projects in pursuit of new knowledge, techniques, and concepts.
  • Assists with research logistics, including equipment, materials, and labor needs.
  • Collects data/samples related to research.
  • Records and compiles data/samples.
  • May instruct students and/or supervise others' research in their area of expertise.
  • Participate in unit meetings
  • Assist with demonstrative activities and various objectives associated with the unit
  • Report any problems or general issues that hinder the completion of tasks
  • Work independently with general supervision; exercise judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
Candidate must hold a degree and/or experience in agriculture or a related discipline.
  • LEVEL I (no degree with 4+ yr experience or AS degree (or equivalent) with a minimum of 2yr experience)
  • LEVEL II (BS degree with little to no experience)
  • LEVEL III (BS degree with minimum of 2yr experience or MS with little to no experience)

Physical Demands
  • Job frequently requires walking (up to three (3) miles a day, as fieldwork is a large component of this position), standing, sitting, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to elements such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, chemicals, etc., but none to the point of being unbearable. it may involve minor safety hazards where the likely result would be minor cuts, bruises, etc.
  • Routine deadlines; usually sufficient lead time; variance in work volume seasonal and predictable; priorities can be anticipated; some interruptions are present; involves occasional exposure to demands and pressure from job
  • Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/ or electronically

Skills and Attributes
  • Excellent organizational skills and superior attention to detail. Basic computer fluency with Microsoft Office Suite and web conferencing (Word, Excel, Zoom, Teams, etc.)
  • Experience in a leadership role with demonstrated critical thinking skills is a plus.
  • Demonstrate abilities as a team player
  • Be self-driven and self-motivated
  • Valid Driver's License or the ability to obtain one prior to selection
  • Greenhouse experience a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery is a plus, but not required
