How much do paddock jobs pay per hour?

As of Jul 15, 2026, the average hourly pay for paddock in the United States is $13.36, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $10.10 and $15.38 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a paddock in the context of jobs?

A paddock is typically a small, enclosed field or area used to keep or exercise horses and other livestock. In job contexts, 'paddock' can refer to roles related to managing, maintaining, or supervising these areas, such as a Paddock Manager or Paddock Attendant. These professionals ensure animals are safe, fed, and healthy, and that the paddock environment is clean and properly maintained. Paddock jobs may also involve preparing animals for events, overseeing their transportation, and coordinating with veterinarians as needed.

What are some common challenges faced by a paddock manager in maintaining optimal livestock health and pasture quality?

As a paddock manager, one of the main challenges is balancing livestock grazing with pasture regeneration to avoid overgrazing and soil degradation. Seasonal weather changes, such as droughts or heavy rains, can also impact pasture health and require adaptive management strategies. Additionally, monitoring animal health and ensuring adequate access to water and shelter are ongoing responsibilities. Effective collaboration with farm workers and veterinarians is essential for addressing these challenges and maintaining a productive, sustainable operation.

What is the difference between Paddock vs Stable Hand?

AspectPaddockStable Hand
CredentialsNone typically required, some experience preferredNone required, on-the-job training common
Work EnvironmentOutdoor, open fields, paddocks, pasturesIndoor and outdoor, stables and barns
Employer & IndustryEquestrian farms, racing stables, ranchesRiding schools, racing stables, farms
Job DutiesManaging paddocks, fencing, grazing managementFeeding, grooming, cleaning stalls, basic horse care

While both roles involve horse care, a Paddock primarily focuses on managing outdoor grazing areas and fencing, whereas a Stable Hand handles daily stable maintenance and horse grooming inside stables. Both positions are essential in equestrian settings and often overlap in basic horse care tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Paddock Worker, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Paddock Worker, you need knowledge of animal care, basic farm maintenance, and safety protocols, often gained through hands-on experience or agricultural training. Familiarity with tools like tractors, feeding systems, and sometimes computerized livestock tracking systems is important. Strong observation skills, reliability, and effective teamwork are valuable soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure the well-being of animals, efficient farm operations, and safe working environments.
