Packing Supervisor

Location: Postle Aluminum - Cassopolis, MI
Reports To: Shipping Manager

Position Summary

The Packing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily production/shipping operations within our aluminum extrusion manufacturing facility. This role ensures the accurate, efficient, and safe packing, loading, and shipment of finished goods to customers. The Packing Supervisor will coordinate production, quality, and logistics to maintain on-time deliveries, uphold customer satisfaction, and drive continuous improvement in the production processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily Operations:
    • Supervise and coordinate all shipping department activities including order picking, packaging, staging, and loading of aluminum extrusions.
    • Ensure proper packing, handling, stacking, loading, and securing of long and heavy aluminum profiles to prevent damage during transit.
    • Monitor and supervise pack teams to meet customer delivery deadlines.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Direct, train, and support department personnel to achieve performance and safety goals.
    • Assign daily tasks, monitor productivity, and provide coaching/feedback.
    • Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Compliance & Safety:
    • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company-specific safety standards.
    • Conduct routine safety checks on forklifts and cranes.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
  • Quality & Accuracy:
    • Verify accuracy of shipments by reviewing orders, manifests, and customer requirements.
    • Inspect packaging and labeling to ensure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Process Improvement & Reporting:
    • Track packing KPIs (on-time delivery, error rates) and recommend improvements.
    • Collaborate with other departments to streamline order flow from production to shipment.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of supervisory experience in shipping, production, or warehouse operations, preferably in aluminum extrusion or metal manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of shipping procedures and ERP systems.
  • Experience with heavy material handling, forklifts, cranes, and load securement.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a diverse team in a fast-paced environment.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, and moving equipment.
