They often coordinate with other departments to optimize workflow and may also implement strategies to improve efficiency and reduce waste. Packing managers play a key role in ensuring that products are delivered to customers in good condition and on time.

Job description

Assistant Distribution Center Operations Manager

MetroShoe Warehouse - Oklahoma City, OK

MetroShoe Warehouse is looking for an Assistant Distribution Center Operations Manager to join our growing fulfillment team in Oklahoma City.

Our Distribution Center supports multiple areas of our business, including our local retail stores, e-commerce customers, and a significant Amazon business. We regularly ship inventory to and receive inventory from Amazon Fulfillment Centers (FBA), replenish our retail stores, process online orders, receive merchandise from vendors, and manage inventory throughout our distribution network.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who enjoys a fast-paced environment, solving problems, working with a team, and making sure the right product gets to the right place-accurately and on time.

The Assistant Operations Manager will work alongside our Distribution Center team while helping oversee daily operations, employees, inventory flow, receiving, picking, packing, shipping, Amazon/FBA shipments, and overall warehouse efficiency.

The Opportunity

The ideal candidate is someone who can lead from the floor. This is not a desk-only management position.

You will spend significant time working alongside the team, learning our systems and processes, identifying problems, helping employees succeed, and making sure daily priorities are completed accurately and efficiently.

Because our business is heavily dependent on Amazon and e-commerce, priorities can change quickly. The ability to stay organized, communicate clearly, and adjust to changing workload and shipping requirements is extremely important.

Key ResponsibilitiesDistribution & Fulfillment
  • Oversee and participate in the daily distribution of inventory to MetroShoe Warehouse retail locations based on replenishment requirements.
  • Oversee and participate in the daily preparation and shipment of inventory to Amazon Fulfillment Centers (FBA).
  • Oversee fulfillment of online customer orders and ensure orders are picked, packed, labeled, and shipped accurately and on time.
  • Receive incoming merchandise from vendors and accurately process inventory into the company's warehouse management system.
  • Identify, document, and communicate vendor shortages, overages, damages, and other receiving discrepancies.
  • Sort and distribute incoming and outgoing freight.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks, pallets, cartons, and merchandise.
  • Maintain accurate inventory movement throughout the Distribution Center.
  • Ensure merchandise is properly located, binned, picked, transferred, and shipped.
Amazon & E-Commerce Operations
  • Help manage the daily flow of merchandise moving to and from Amazon Fulfillment Centers.
  • Prepare Amazon shipments according to required shipping, labeling, carton, and routing requirements.
  • Monitor shipment accuracy and help resolve issues involving incorrect quantities, labels, cartons, inventory, or shipping requirements.
  • Help identify and correct inventory discrepancies that could affect Amazon or e-commerce fulfillment.
  • Understand the importance of deadlines and accuracy when working with Amazon and other e-commerce channels.
  • Assist with Amazon-related operational projects and process improvements as the business continues to grow.

Previous Amazon/FBA experience is a plus, but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate who has strong warehouse, inventory, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

Inventory & Technology
  • Become proficient in MetroShoe Warehouse's WMS, inventory, binning, and handheld systems.
  • Accurately perform inventory transactions using handheld devices and warehouse systems.
  • Assist with cycle counts, inventory audits, and researching inventory discrepancies.
  • Utilize technology to improve inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.
  • Work with RFID processes and other inventory-control technology as applicable.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records related to inventory movement and warehouse activities.
Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead and work alongside Distribution Center Associates and Leads to accomplish daily operational goals.
  • Train new employees on warehouse procedures, safety, inventory systems, picking, packing, receiving, and shipping.
  • Hold employees accountable to company policies, procedures, productivity expectations, and safety standards.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, coaching, and retention of Distribution Center employees.
  • Help prepare weekly employee schedules and adjust staffing based on business needs.
  • Assist with addressing attendance, performance, timekeeping, and employee-related issues.
  • Work with employees to identify obstacles and find practical solutions to improve productivity.
  • Create a positive, accountable, team-oriented work environment.
Operations & Continuous Improvement
  • Monitor daily workflow and help prioritize work based on business needs and shipping deadlines.
  • Evaluate warehouse processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and productivity.
  • Help analyze labor requirements and employee productivity.
  • Assist with weekly reporting related to staffing, productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce errors, unnecessary handling, wasted time, and shipping costs.
  • Help implement new processes and technology as MetroShoe Warehouse continues to expand its e-commerce and Amazon business.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient Distribution Center.
Safety
  • Promote a safe working environment and ensure employees follow company safety procedures.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Assist with safety training and reinforce proper lifting, material handling, equipment, and warehouse procedures.
  • Ensure employees are properly trained before performing assigned duties.
Other Responsibilities
  • Operate a company vehicle when needed.
  • Assist with special projects and other Distribution Center responsibilities as assigned.
  • Be willing to step into different areas of the operation when business needs require it.
