Job description

For over a century Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company has been manufacturing pipe and fittings exclusively in the USA, employing 1,400 loyal, hard-working Americans. Today we manufacture the industry's broadest range of standard and specialty DWV products, including cast iron and plastic pipe and fittings.

Charlotte Pipe is headquartered in Charlotte, NC, and has seven plant locations across the United States.

Charlotte Pipe and Foundry, located in Monroe, NC, is looking for an Extrusion Operator Trainee. We are the only manufacturer that offers a complete system of cast iron, PVC, CPVC, ABS and FlowGuard Gold pipe and fittings for residential and commercial plumbing systems and industrial applications. Investment in the latest tooling and machinery make it possible for us to meet increasing demand for our products and to provide the highest quality pipe and fittings in the industry. Summary: Extrusion Operator is responsible for running extrusion machines, packing and moving pipe to storage location. Each Operator is responsible for Safety 5S housekeeping of his/her machines and work area.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Starting up extruder, monitoring material flow, making adjustments to extruder and downstream equipment as needed.
  • Setting up cooling tanks and making required adjustments as needed.
  • Inspecting and identifying poor quality pipe using micrometer, pie tape, etc.
  • Monitoring pipe skin thickness.
  • Packing pipe per standards with strapping tool, weighing pipe and moving to designated storage area with forklift.
  • Assisting Maintenance personnel in repair of equipment.
  • Accurately completing production quality records. 
  • Responsible for performing minor repairs on pipe racks, printers, etc.
  • Assisting coworkers and training new associates.
  • Keeping work area up to 5S housekeeping standards including operating sweeper as necessary.

 Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Ability to work 12-hour, night shift
  • Ability to frequently lift up to 50 pounds
  • Submit to and successfully complete background check and pre-employment drug test
  • Computer and mechanical ability preferred

 

Schedule:

4 on 4 off | 12-hour shifts | 7pm - 7am
