Position Overview
Sofidel America, a subsidiary of the Sofidel Group, is a leading manufacturer of paper products globally. With subsidiaries in 15 countries and over 3,500 employees worldwide, Sofidel Group is dedicated to producing high-quality paper for hygienic and domestic use
The Packaging Operator supports the Converting Production by operating paper converting equipment to meet the production goal established for the line in a safe manner. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all company safety policies and ensuring that all products manufactured meet customer specifications. This position status is non-exempt.
This position works a Modified DuPont schedule consisting of 12-hour day and night shifts, rotating weekends, and periodic transitions between days and nights. Candidates should carefully consider the schedule before applying.
Job Responsibilities
  • Supports Sofidel America's Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary and hygienically sound workplace.
  • Responsible for set-up, operation, adjustment, and change-over of the primary and/or secondary packaging equipment.
  • Perform with other staff operating the line, as a team, to achieve established production rates and line uptime.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks and communicate additional work required to dedicated maintenance staff.
  • Document quality control, production and/or maintenance issues on respective reporting forms during operation of the line.
  • Understand product specifications to ensure production of a quality finished product within the tolerances.
  • Reads and comprehends production schedules, work orders, manuals, and performance specifications, to establish proper operation of the equipment.
  • Obey the established housekeeping rules and maintain a safe and organized work area clean of obstacles, debris and loose material.
  • Perform routine inspection of condition of the equipment and report to the Supervisor or the Maintenance department unusual equipment or operating problems.
  • Assist other operators, maintenance, or production personnel in other production duties as needed.

Other Duties May Include:
  • Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
  • Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition. Support quality, housekeeping and sanitation standards as well as assuring customer satisfaction
  • Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and six (6) to twelve (12) months experience manufacturing inventory and purchasing and/or training; preferred equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to work across departments and in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and re-prioritize tasks as needed with strong time-management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to learn and certify in Lift and Crane operation
  • Ability to use tools, measuring tape, calculators, and other common metrology instruments related to the operation of the equipment.
  • Ability to identify nonconformance and notify Supervisor of issues.
  • Communicate in a manner that supports production. Confers with managers, technicians, production personnel, and other operators regarding testing procedures and results to resolve problems.
  • Ability to use computer and peripherals, standard and customized software applications and tools, and usual production equipment.

Work Environment
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when in the plant and warehouse areas. PPE will include safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests and hairnets or hats along with any other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range a great deal from season to season. The employee will be exposed to considerable paper dust and employees will also be exposed to noise levels that will require hearing protection.
