Job description

About the Role

MWH is currently seeking a qualified Project Engineer to support the construction of a Water Treatment Plant located in Gresham, Oregon. This project will be the first of its kind, ultimately supplying 135 million gallons of water a day to the Portland community. The position is an opportunity to be part of a historic infrastructure and filtration project and see it through the entire project delivery life cycle, from groundbreaking to closeout.

This position is accountable for supporting all aspects of delivery for filtration project work that may include shop drawing and RFI management, As Built maintenance, contract management, change management, quality management, and issues management. The Project Engineer must ensure work is performed in accordance with the contract documents and other engineering standards.

Essential Functions

RFIs and Submittals: 60%

  • Analyze subcontractor RFIs for clarity and confirm information that cannot be discerned from the contract documents; shepherd responses through the Engineer of Record process and post RFIs to the As Built contract documents.
  • Analyze subcontractor and manufacturer submittals against contract documents, including determining if a proffered substitution is sufficiently comparable to recommend for approval.
  • Manage the submittal process, reviewing and approving shop drawings and ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct thorough technical reviews of submittals, identify deviations from project requirements, and coordinate with relevant parties to resolve issues.

Project Coordination, Communication, and Problem Solving: 30%

  • Provide support to the Trade Package Project Managers and Site Superintendents.
  • Review shop drawings for general compliance with contract documents and coordinate approvals with the Engineer of Record.
  • Assist in change order analysis, assessing validity of cost estimates, and managing Time and Materials tickets on executed change orders.
  • Link shop drawings to construction schedule activities and support PMs in weekly progress updates.
  • Attend routine meetings, track critical issues, and drive resolution through active communication with responsible parties.
  • Ensure quality activities are planned, executed, and documented according to contract requirements.
  • Maintain safety standards, ensuring zero-accident project and compliance with site safety requirements.
  • Follow company health and safety guidelines and policies for personal and employee safety.

Documentation and Record Keeping: 10%

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of all RFIs, submittals, and related correspondence.
Basic Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in project engineering or field engineering.
  • Familiarity with reading contract drawings and specifications, and basic construction principles and practices.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience in the water/wastewater industry or similar industries.

  • Anticipated salary range: $80,000 - $100,000 per year, depending on experience.
