Job description

Staff Position Description - Packaging Production Assistant

Classification: Full-Time, Non-Exempt (Salary)

The DMC Production Assistant is a full-time, hourly, non-exempt position within the production department. This role is eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.

Production Assistants are integral to daily operations and are expected to be cross-trained in all production stations. Flexibility is key; team members may be reassigned to various tasks or stations based on operational demands and direction from supervisors.

This position may also involve occasional support of other departments as business needs arise.

Physical Requirements:
This role requires the ability to safely lift and carry items weighing up to 60 pounds.

Pay Structure:

This is a full-time, salaried non-exempt position with a starting annual salary of $33,696. As a non-exempt employee under the Fair Labor Standards Act and applicable Illinois and Chicago wage laws, this role is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40. Employees are eligible for subsidized benefits after their 90-day probationary period.
Fulfilling orders for retail and wholesale accounts
  • Read and comprehend all blend ratios, origins, and standard/custom wholesale blend names
  • Comprehension of basic mechanics of Breadcrumb POS
  • Properly label retail and bulk bags using the necessary production forms as reference
  • Execute necessary tasks for order fulfillment and shipping
  • Prepare and ship packages when necessary.
  • Contribute to the preparation and execution of off-site events when necessary

Maintaining a safe, clean and orderly environment in the workplace
  • Washing hands before entering and re-entering the production floor
  • Limit the amount of direct touches to roasted coffee beans
  • Wear a safety mask when grinding coffee
  • Bags, writing utensils, and tools kept in designated areas
Coffee bins not being used must be covered with lids and kept properly labeled
  • Periodically sweep spilled coffee off the floor and worktables
  • Follow closing procedures designated by the Production Manager
Communication
  • Use designated spreadsheets for ordering roasted coffee from the roasting floor.
  • Scheduled bi-weekly production meetings are mandatory for attendance
  • Maintain regular check-ins with the production manager
  • Conversations involving sensitive or personal material must be kept off the production floor and communicated directly to the supervisor or appropriate individual when necessary.
Basic Production Dept. Rules
  • Alcohol consumption is prohibited while working.
  • Food is prohibited on the production floor, roasting floor, green and roasted coffee storage, and lab. Eating is allowed only in designated areas on the premises.
  • Beverages must not be in proximity of roasted or green coffee
  • Wearing a hat or hair net is required while working the production floor
  • Time off requests must be made two weeks in advance. Not all requests will be fulfilled, and policy operates on a first-come, first serve basis.
  • Repeated failure to comply with job responsibilities will result in a disciplinary write-up, or termination.
