Summary
The Packaging Mechanic is a key member of the packaging team, and is responsible for repairs, maintenance of equipment in the Packaging Department, and ensuring that all department equipment functions properly to meet production requirements.ย  This position may have Supervisory responsibilities such as vendor management, timecard approvals, training, and supporting the development of team members.ย  The Mechanic also maintains equipment to meet SOP and cGMP specifications, troubleshoots, and diagnoses equipment failure able to source problems and repair equipment. This Mechanic should be proficient in dismantling and reassembling equipment and using appropriate tools to perform repairs.

Responsibilities

  • Works in a team environment with management to ensure departmental goals are prioritized and met.
  • Gives direction and support to the other mechanics when needed.
  • Ensures that machines are properly maintained and PMโ€™s are performed and documented monthly.
  • Serves as primary troubleshooter for all equipment in the department. Contacts equipment vendors when mechanical problems arise.
  • Performs required analysis of all electrical, electronic and mechanical components in the event of equipment failure.
  • Establish and perform preventive maintenance on all equipment to ensure proper operation and minimal downtime.
  • Performs set-ups and changeovers of all machines in accordance with schedule demands.
  • Advises packaging management of equipment performance, problems and status.
  • Participates in the installation and debugging of new or modified equipment.
  • Follows department SOPโ€™s, cGMP and safety practices.
  • Maintains proper documentation in accordance with SOPโ€™s.
  • Must perform and successfully complete all trainings in Master Control.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience, Education, and Skills Required

  • High School Diploma, Technical School Certificate plus one 5+ years' experience as a GMP Packaging Mechanic.ย 
  • Either Bottle or Blister machine packaging mechanic experience required.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and other communication. Ability to write reports, memos and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information required.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Other math skills may apply.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.

  • Occasionally required to climb ladders and/or steps to reach equipment.
  • Reading precision measuring equipment, machine dials, gages, and thermometers; must be able to observe fine details utilizing a microscope.
