Job description

SUMMARY

Supervises and coordinates activities of manufacturing employees and related support functions

by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines.
  • Maintains and ensures compliance with the company's quality systems (IATF 16949 and any other requirements) throughout the operation.
  • Proactively promotes, facilitates, trains, and ensures safe work behavior and an overall commitment to a safe workplace on behalf of the operation.  Facilitates safety meetings on a periodic basis with employees.
  • Uses production schedules, sales order reports, etc. to ensure jobs are completed as needed.   Coordinates resources (engineering,PIC, maintenance, etc.) to meet customer requirements in a timely and cost effective manner.
  • Guides, mentors, coaches and act as a role model to other department team members.
  • Promote positive human resource environment through effective communication and proactive problem identification and resolution activities among team members.
  • Provides feedback and evaluation on individual and team performance of department workers.
  • Develops and assists in the implementation of technical training and quality systems matrix for all employees.
  • In conjunction with management staff, evaluates technical performance criteria for employee development.
  • Communicates with other senior managers regarding department and individual performance.
  • Interprets company policies for workers; insures compliance with safety regulations.
  • Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
  • Recommends measures to improve:  production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
  • Provides tools, training and allocates resources to allow team members to perform their responsibilities to the level of management expectations.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.  Responsible to manager of operation within budget constraints.
  • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers and achieve work goals.
  • Maintains time and production records.
  • May estimate, requisitions, and inspects materials.
  • Monitors, tracks and follows-up on machine cycle performance.
  • Manages the implementation of designated productivity/quality improvement projects.
  • Supervises production, maintenance, utility, shipping/receiving and tooling support functions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises employees in the Production Department.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Four year college or university program certificate; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
