Job description

Hours: Fulltime, 40 hrs/wk, swing shift work, currently working 4-10 shifts, and some overtime required.

Starting Wage: $20/hour. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.

The Position

A Packaging Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient packaging of craft beverages to the standard of quality expected. Packaging Operators operate a variety of machinery and equipment and routinely perform a variety of cleaning duties and light maintenance tasks. Packaging Operators work a rotating shift schedule (currently day and swing) that rotates to meet production demand. Shift assignment and scheduling are determined by the Packaging Manager. Shifts and workdays may be altered at any time based upon production needs, but typically consist of a 40-hour work week with two consecutive days off.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload vans with forklift and pallet jacks.
  • Set up, operate, and clean all canning, kegging, variety pack, and bottling line equipment as directed.
  • Ensure complete transition of assigned position status and responsibilities between shifts.
  • Perform light maintenance as needed.
  • Report equipment malfunctions, damage, or anomalies, or loss of efficient operation to Packaging Shift Supervisor in a timely fashion.
  • Clean equipment, building and floors. Must keep assigned work station clean and organized at all times.
  • Perform operational check procedures including forklift safety checks, oxygen testing (DO/TPO), code dating, beer approval tasting, and finished product examination and testing.
  • Ensure finished product (caseware, kegs, labels, etc) is to the standard of quality expected.
  • Perform appropriate sanitation and cleanliness SOPs including parts cleaning, personal hygiene, and quality assurance.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of the operational equipment in the packaging areas including pumps, valves, and packaging machines.

  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively across shifts and departments.
  • Repetitive work in a noisy environment around heavy machinery.
  • Safe handling of industrial chemicals.
  • Ability to work under the time pressures of a fast-paced assembly line.
  • Adherence to all established standards of cleanliness.
  • Ability to fill out required logs accurately and legibly.
  • Ability to work safely with pressurized pumps and valves.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to maneuver pallets of product weighing 2,100 lb using a pallet jack or forklift.
  • Ability to stack 40 lb cases and maneuver kegs weighing up to 170 lbs.
  • Ability to repetitively maneuver heavy objects such as boxes of bottle caps or labels.
  • Ability to drive a forklift and handle heavy objects in a confined area safely.
  • Ability to work in cold, wet conditions.
  • Ability to work safely with hazardous materials (acids, bases, sanitizing agents).

Knowledge and Skills

  • Forklift operator certificate is required (training done in-house).
  • Sufficient computer skills to competently work within our automated processes such as Brewmaxx, NetSuite, and Ignition.
