Job description

The Devices & Services Experience Design (DxD) team leads user experience and industrial design innovation across Amazon's device portfolio, including Echo, Fire TV, Fire Tablets, Alexa.com, and related mobile apps. Our team works at the intersection of design, product and engineering, creating meaningful hardware and software experiences that enhance customer lives. We believe in storytelling and thinking holistically to craft the "why" behind everything we ship.
The Senior Packaging Engineering Program Manager drives the strategic vision and execution of packaging UX and design excellence across our devices portfolio-spanning new product launches and sustaining programs. This role owns the end-to-end packaging plan, including schedule creation, structural design development and approval, testing, and coordination of validation builds, aligning inter-disciplinary teams to ensure packaging structure and artwork meet global launch dates. Additional responsibilities include Bill of Material (BOM) management, compliance oversight, and Print On Demand (POD) labeling design and production.
Beyond execution, this role serves as a strategic partner to senior leadership-driving closure on ambiguous, high-impact trade-offs and ensuring packaging strategy is integrated with broader product and business objectives. The ideal candidate invents and simplifies-relentlessly eliminating complexity, challenging legacy processes, and architecting scalable solutions that raise the bar globally. This role demands a bias for action paired with long-term strategic thinking: delivering today's launches while building the mechanisms that accelerate tomorrow's.
Working closely with global, cross-functional partners-including Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, Marketing, Legal/Compliance, Operations, and Hardware Technical Program Managers-the Senior Packaging Engineering Program Manager influences at all levels from concept through production. Success requires earning trust with senior leaders, navigating organizational complexity, and driving alignment across competing priorities to deliver results at scale.
Key job responsibilities
- Define and manage the end-to-end packaging development schedule, ensuring on-time delivery of milestones from concept through production readiness.
- Drive packaging structure alignment across cross-functional teams, facilitating timely decisions and stakeholder consensus.
- Define, implement, and ensure accurate application of compliance-related content across all packaging deliverables.
- Lead Print On Demand (POD) labeling support and execution, ensuring quality and on-time delivery.
- Develop and execute packaging strategies supporting global product launches and regional market expansion.
- Identify and implement process improvements and scalable mechanisms that increase efficiency and mitigate risk across packaging deliverables.
- Coordinate resources and engage stakeholders to maintain schedule integrity across concurrent programs.
- Proactively identify risks to packaging timelines and drive resolution through clear escalation and communication.
A day in the life
As a Packaging Engineering Program Manager, you'll drive packaging development programs forward in lockstep with hardware launch timelines - removing obstacles across operations, legal/compliance, and engineering to keep deliverables on track. From aligning packaging structures and resolving compliance content gaps to executing POD labeling and advancing global launch strategies, you'll operate at the intersection of multiple disciplines in a fast-paced, design-focused environment. If you're energized by innovation, thrive on navigating cross-functional challenges, and want to shape how customers experience our products from the moment they open the box, this role is for you.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 9+ years of design experience
- Experience working with stakeholders to plan and execute programs that are strategic in nature
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 9+ years in packaging development or program management for consumer electronics
- End-to-end packaging development experience for branded hardware products
- Proven ability to program manage packaging workstreams across cross-functional teams
- Experience with structure development, material selection, and production readiness
- Experience with label design programs and Print-On-Demand (POD) labeling processes
- Experience managing multiple concurrent device programs with competing priorities
- Packaging Engineering, UX Program Management, or direct packaging development experience
- Experience applying scrum methodologies to visual or UX design processes
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills across all organizational levels
- Experience in business process and workstream development optimization and standardization
