Job description

Description Job Summary Packaging Engineers work closely with our process, controls, and building system engineers to scope, layout, install, and commission packaging equipment lines for our food and beverage industry clients. Dennis Group is a design build engineering firm and general contractor that designs and builds food and beverage processing facilities. As such, our packaging engineers are involved with defining packaging equipment project requirements, estimating packaging equipment costs, creating packaging flow diagrams, providing onsite construction support, and start-up and commissioning the packaging equipment. As a Packaging Engineer, your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Responsibilities Design: Create basis of design and scope of work documents Develop design concepts Develop functional specifications for packaging lines Work with sanitary design concepts for liquid, powder, and shaped products Create AutoCAD equipment layouts Interpret mechanical design requirements and customer specifications Review and approve vendor shop drawings and discipline coordination drawings Engineering: Be a subject matter expert in at least one packaging area Manage multiple projects Create packaging flow diagrams, material balance, packaging matrix, equipment specifications, OEE documents, speed matrix and V- Curve Develop project budgets Create and follow up with equipment bid packages Develop and maintain delivery and installation schedule Understand size and placement of support equipment Provide expertise in manufacturing and packaging design principles Design systems including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing and palletizing Assist in process simulation Develop project specific procurement documents for packaging equipment Assist with machine and process design Preparation of machine testing requirements and procedures Site work: Survey existing conditions On-site construction project coordination Manage installation and commissioning of packaging equipment Manage equipment vendors and installation crews Lead and/or participate in presentations at client meetings Lead factory acceptance testing at vendors shop Lead a team including coaching and mentoring of employees Be the client contact and lead engineer on multiple projects Must have led a project team that installed a packaging system with components including conveyance, wrapping, bagging, cartoning, filling, bottling, case packing or palletizing Departmental growth: Continual research of packaging engineering best practices Required Education Skills and Experience Bachelor's degree in mechanical, packaging, industrial, or manufacturing engineering 8-11 years of work experience in related field Must have multiple large project experience in project definition, equipment design/layout, process design, equipment design, machine testing procedures, installation and commissioning of equipment Experience working for food and beverage manufacturing or food and beverage design firms is required. Proficiency with MS Office, MS Project, and AutoCAD Excellent oral and written communication skills Intellectual curiosity and a positive, can-do, team-oriented attitude Strong problem solving, organizing, and time management skills Must meet Travel Requirement - On-site construction project coordination and management with travel requirements between 50%-70% of the year Physical Requirements Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift-up to 15 pounds at times. Travel Requirement 50%-70% travel required throughout the year to visit project site and other offices.
