The Packaging Engineer reports to the VP of Engineering with strong functional partnership across Industrial Design, Marketing, Regulatory, Supply Chain, and International Sales. This role owns the technical structure, performance, and compliance of packaging across the product portfolio. You will be responsible for packaging architecture, materials, specifications, testing, labeling requirements, and global compliance. You will work directly with internal teams and external manufacturing partners to ensure packaging solutions are robust, scalable, compliant, and optimized for domestic and international distribution.

Key Responsibilities:

Every role at Trove Brands is critical to our collective success. Your specific responsibilities as a Packaging Engineer will include:

  • Define, develop, and own structural packaging solutions across primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging
  • Create and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation for all packaging components
  • Partner directly with factories and OEM packaging teams to develop, validate, and implement packaging solutions at scale
  • Ensure packaging designs are manufacturable, repeatable, and aligned with factory capabilities and constraints
  • Lead and execute shipping and distribution testing, including drop, compression, vibration, and environmental testing, to validate packaging performance
  • Own packaging performance across all shipping modes including parcel, LTL, FTL, and international freight
  • Maintain solid understanding of case sizes, weights, palletization, and cube efficiency for domestic and international programs
  • Ensure packaging meets all shipping regulations, carrier requirements, and regional labeling standards.
  • Understand retailer requirements and standard processes, update packaging to ensure compliance and smooth execution at retail.
  • Own technical specifications for labels, adhesives, tapes, and application methods
  • Collaborate with Regulatory and International Sales teams on regional labeling requirements and market specific packaging needs
  • Partner with Industrial Design and Marketing to ensure approved consumer packaging concepts and brand requirements translate into structurally sound, compliant, and manufacturable packaging solutions
  • Work with Supply Chain and Operations to optimize packaging for cost, durability, sustainability, and throughput
  • Develop and maintain packaging test protocols, specification libraries, and documentation within PLM or related systems
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on packaging performance, cost reduction, damage reduction, and compliance

Required Qualifications:

We are looking for a technically strong, detail-oriented engineer who is comfortable working across disciplines and geographies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field
  • 3 to 7 years of experience in packaging engineering, materials engineering, or a related role within consumer or durable goods
  • Strong understanding of packaging materials, structural design, and distribution environments
  • Hands on experience with packaging validation and shipping test methodologies
  • Experience working directly with overseas manufacturing partners and OEM suppliers
  • Working knowledge of domestic and international shipping regulations and labeling requirements
  • Proficiency with CAD tools and engineering documentation systems
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across engineering, design, operations, and commercial teams

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working within PLM, ERP, or specification management systems is a plus
