Zero Overview
Zero is a creative studio founded in NYC. We have offices in New York, Milwaukee, Los Angeles as well as working virtually across the world. Our intention is to create an environment where multidisciplinary teams can solve problems for progressive and contemporary brands. We aim to constantly re-evaluate what it's like to work with a studio and provide a high degree of value and service to our clients and our team.

Position Overview
As a Design Intern at Zero, your primary focus is to hone your craft while developing thoughtful, original ideas that are on strategy.
You conceptualize the emotional "why" behind brands and how to express it across all creative mediums. From brand worlds to websites, social platforms and marketing channels, you're responsible for creating design work that speaks the brand's language and offers a fresh perspective within the brand's industry. Whether developing the visual brand tone or working within a set of established guidelines, you are able to plug into the brand mindset and articulate it. You have the skills and understanding to properly execute on typography, color theory, layout and art direction, as well as the ability to develop effective visual communication to fit a variety of brands.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to the research & discovery phase through competitive audits, research, and any additional tactics that add value
  • Contribute to the development of holistic brand strategies that are unique to the market and genuine to the beliefs and vision of the brand
  • Develop effective designs and art direction that deliver on the brand strategies, are unique to the market and genuine to the beliefs and vision of the brand
  • Collaborate closely with copywriters and developers on brand applications such as branding, art direction, packaging, website, emails, social media content and other mediums to support the brand world
  • Work closely with Creative Leads and Project Leads to develop designs and a systematic approach to the design language across mediums
  • Approach every project with a clear purpose and ensure all executions meet business and user goals

Mentorship & Goals
Zero internships provide you with the opportunity to grow in your career by working on real client work, collaborating with the team, presenting work to clients, and having mentorship from leadership. To track progress and discuss your growth, you will have regular check-ins with leadership at Zero that includes:
  • Bi-weekly check-ins with your manager, a Director at Zero
  • Monthly check-ins with a Partner at Zero

At the culmination of your internship, you will have a final performance review with your manager and a partner at Zero to discuss your progress and reflect on growth and experience at Zero.
The goal of this internship for Zero is to support early career individuals through mentorship and on the job training as well as work with talented people that can contribute time and perspective to our clients and projects.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Zero views internships as on-the-ground professional development while working on client projects. As such, only candidates not currently enrolled in an education program will be considered.

Years of Experience
  • A portfolio that demonstrates your design thinking and ability to consider design basics such as typography, color theory and layout.

Reporting Structure
  • The position reports to a Creative Director

Working Location
  • Zero has physical studio spaces in Brooklyn & Milwaukee. Staff are expected to occasionally work in these locations if you live within a reasonable distance of these studios. Additional details can be discussed during the interview process.

Pay, Benefits, and Engagement Period
  • Internships at Zero are for a 4 month period
  • Interns will be paid at a rate of $2,916 per month for the length of the internship
  • PTO and other benefits will be discussed during the interview process
