What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Pcb Layout Designer position, and why are they important?

To excel as a PCB Layout Designer, you need a solid understanding of electronic circuit design, component placement, signal integrity, and manufacturing processes, typically supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Expertise in industry-standard EDA tools such as Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics, or Cadence Allegro, and familiarity with IPC standards, is commonly required. Attention to detail, effective communication, and strong problem-solving abilities help set top candidates apart. These skills are crucial for producing reliable and manufacturable printed circuit boards that meet project specifications and facilitate smooth collaboration across engineering teams.

What are some typical challenges PCB Layout Designers face in their daily work?

PCB Layout Designers often navigate challenges such as fitting complex circuits within limited board space, ensuring signal integrity, and complying with stringent industry or client-specific design standards. Managing design revisions, coordinating with electrical engineers and mechanical teams, and ensuring that designs are manufacturable can also present day-to-day hurdles. Clear communication and a thorough understanding of both electrical and mechanical constraints are essential to address these issues efficiently. Successfully overcoming these challenges ensures high-quality, cost-effective PCB designs and maintains smooth project timelines.

What is a PCB Layout Designer job?

A PCB Layout Designer is responsible for designing the physical layout of printed circuit boards (PCBs) based on electrical schematics and design requirements. They use specialized software to place components, route traces, and ensure signal integrity while following design rules and manufacturing constraints. Their role involves collaboration with engineers to optimize performance, minimize interference, and meet industry standards. PCB Layout Designers must also consider thermal management, mechanical constraints, and manufacturability for efficient production.

By bringing together technologies and industries, alongside the contributions of diverse individuals and their areas of expertise, we are able to solve problems better, faster. This multi-dimensional approach enables us to solve the most critical and large-scale challenges across the aerospace & defense, automotive, energy, hi-tech, healthcare, medical devices, rail and semiconductor industries.
We are looking for humble geniuses, who believe that engineering has the potential to make the impossible possible; innovators, who are not only inspired by technology and innovation, but also perpetually driven to design, develop, and test as a trusted partner for Fortune 500 customers. As a team of remarkably diverse engineers, we recognize that what we are really engineering is a brighter future for us all. If you want to contribute to meaningful work and be part of an organization that truly believes when you win, we all win, and when you fail, we all learn, then we're eager to hear from you. The achievers and courageous challenge-crushers we seek, have the following characteristics and skills
What You will Do:
A PCB Design Engineer who is responsible for transforming electronic circuit concepts into functional, manufacturable physical circuit boards. They handle schematic capture, component placement, and layout routing while ensuring strict adherence to electrical, thermal, and mechanical constraints.
Key Responsibilities
  • Schematic & Layout Design: Translate hardware requirements into schematics and develop high-density, multi-layer PCB layouts using ECAD tools.
  • Signal Integrity & Thermal Management: Manage high-speed routing techniques (e.g., impedance control, length matching), EMI/EMC mitigation, and heat dissipation.
  • Manufacturing Deliverables: Generate Gerber/ODB++ files, drill charts, and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • DFM & DFA Reviews: Optimize designs for Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) to ensure cost-effective production.
  • Prototyping & Collaboration: Support hardware debugging, testing, and coordinate with mechanical and firmware teams for optimal enclosure fitment.

What You Will Bring:
  • EDA Tools: Proficiency in software Cadence Allegro (constraint manager and thorough tool knowledge). Knowledge of Valor is desirable
  • Design Knowledge: Strong grasp of multi-layer stack-ups, mixed-signal routing, and IPC standards.
  • Analysis: Familiarity with Signal Integrity/Power Integrity (SI/PI) analysis and SPICE simulation.
  • Hardware Skills: Hands-on experience with SMD soldering, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers

Pay Range: $65.00- $70.00/hr.
Compensation decisions are made based on factors including experience, skills, education, and other job-related factors, in accordance with our internal pay structure. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan.
