What is a P4 Automotive engineer?

A P4 Automotive engineer typically refers to a senior-level professional in the automotive industry, often involved in designing, testing, and developing vehicles or vehicle components. The 'P4' designation is commonly used in companies like Intel or large automotive firms to indicate an advanced engineering level, usually requiring significant experience and specialized expertise. P4 engineers may lead projects, mentor junior staff, and work on cutting-edge automotive technologies such as electric vehicles, autonomous systems, or advanced safety features. Their responsibilities can span research, product development, and process optimization.

What types of projects and technologies do P4 Automotive engineers typically work on, and how does this impact their day-to-day responsibilities?

P4 Automotive engineers are often involved in the design, development, and testing of advanced automotive systems such as electric drivetrains, autonomous driving features, and vehicle connectivity solutions. Their daily tasks may include collaborating with cross-functional teams, running simulations, analyzing performance data, and troubleshooting system integration issues. Because the automotive industry is rapidly evolving, engineers in this role must stay current with emerging technologies and industry standards, making adaptability and continuous learning essential. The work environment often emphasizes teamwork, innovation, and strict adherence to safety and quality protocols.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a P4 Automotive engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a P4 Automotive Engineer, you need advanced knowledge of automotive systems, a relevant engineering degree, and substantial industry experience. Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software, automotive diagnostic tools, and compliance with industry standards like ISO/TS 16949 is typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies ensure the development, testing, and implementation of reliable and innovative automotive solutions that meet safety and quality standards.

Job description

Leo Auto Group is hiring Sales Associates across our Indiana locations. No experience required. We'll train you.

This is a real career path, not a dead-end retail job. Our top performers earn well into six figures. First-year associates who show up and put in the work can realistically earn $40,000 to $75,000 with base pay plus commission. The ceiling is as high as you want to push it.

Your job is to help people find the right vehicle. You'll walk customers through our inventory, answer their questions honestly, take test drives, and guide them through the buying process. You're not pressuring anyone into anything - that's not how we operate.

What You'll Do

  • Welcome customers and learn what they're looking for
  • Ask questions and listen to understand their needs, lifestyle, and budget
  • Learn our new and pre-owned vehicle inventory
  • Help customers identify vehicles that meet their needs
  • Explain vehicle features and technology in an easy-to-understand way
  • Conduct professional vehicle demonstrations and test drives
  • Guide customers through the sales and purchasing process
  • Respond to internet and telephone inquiries
  • Follow up with customers by phone, text, and email
  • Maintain relationships with previous customers
  • Generate repeat and referral business
  • Use our CRM and dealership technology to manage customer relationships
  • Work toward individual and dealership sales goals
  • Deliver a professional, transparent, and positive customer experience

We're looking for people who are:

  • Friendly, professional, and comfortable meeting new people
  • Strong communicators and good listeners
  • Motivated by goals and earning potential
  • Competitive while still being team-oriented
  • Comfortable following up with customers
  • Resilient and able to hear "no" without becoming discouraged
  • Dependable and punctual
  • Organized and able to manage multiple customers and priorities
  • Comfortable using computers, smartphones, texting, email, and technology
  • Willing to learn and follow a proven sales process
  • Coachable and open to feedback
  • Focused on creating long-term customer relationships

Automotive experience is NOT required.

We are especially interested in meeting people with backgrounds such as:

  • Restaurant servers, bartenders, and restaurant managers
  • Hotel and hospitality professionals
  • Customer service representatives
  • Cell phone and wireless sales
  • Retail sales and retail management
  • Furniture, appliance, or electronics sales
  • Rental car professionals
  • Banking and financial-services representatives
  • Insurance sales or customer service
  • Call center or inside-sales representatives
  • Outside sales representatives
  • Business Development Center (BDC) representatives
  • Automotive service or parts professionals interested in moving into sales
  • Experienced automotive Sales Consultants
