Job description

JOB TITLE: Utility Worker - P.R.E.P Academy (Part Time)
JOB CLASS NUMBER: HRL930
PAY GRADE: H-06
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
BUSINESS UNIT NAME: Community Development
REPORTS TO: Coming Home Program Coordinator
SUPERVISORY WORK: None
WAGES: $9:00 per hour
SUMMARY
Under general supervision, assists in performing job-related tasks and assignments. Duties include caring for and maintaining park grounds and other City of Amarillo facilities. Participants will attend training courses and complete the assigned coursework.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform general cleaning, labor, and maintenance tasks to ensure City parks and other City of Amarillo facilities are safe and presentable
  • Collect litter, waste, and debris to support cleanliness and enhance the appearance of public spaces across City departments
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and cooperative work environment, following all safety protocols and reporting hazards promptly
  • Respond to weather-related conditions by participating in clean-up efforts, such as snow and ice removal, when needed
  • Participate in special assignments or beautification projects as directed by supervisor
  • Engage in short-term externships in other City departments to gain cross-functional knowledge and assist with department-specific duties
  • Participate in educational training classes to enhance computer literacy skills
  • Receive guidance and support in identifying future employment or educational opportunities aligned with individual strengths and interests
  • Participate in job readiness training activities, including resume building, job search, application completion, and interview skill development
  • Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public to ensure a positive representation of the City of Amarillo
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Prior experience in light groundskeeping and custodial duties is preferred. Regular attendance at classroom sessions organized by the Community Development Department is mandatory.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The primary work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with approximately 24 hours of work scheduled each week.
