What are Owner Operators 90 Percent?

Owner Operators 90 Percent refers to truck drivers who own and operate their own vehicles and work under a carrier that offers them 90% of the revenue from each load they haul. The remaining 10% typically goes to the carrier for providing loads, administrative support, and insurance. This arrangement allows owner operators more control over their earnings and schedules, but also means they are responsible for their own expenses like fuel, maintenance, and insurance. Choosing a 90% pay structure can be attractive for experienced drivers who want to maximize their income and run their own business.

What are the typical challenges Owner Operators face when managing both driving and business operations at a 90 percent pay model?

Owner Operators working under a 90 percent pay model often encounter the challenge of balancing their driving duties with running their own small business. This includes keeping up with administrative tasks such as invoicing, expense tracking, and compliance with regulations, on top of maintaining their truck and securing loads. Additionally, they need to manage their cash flow carefully, as expenses like fuel, insurance, and maintenance are their responsibility. Many find success by developing strong organizational skills and leveraging accounting or dispatching services to streamline their operations.

  • 50% or more drop and hook
  • NO drivers unload EVER
  • No NYC, majority of miles east of I-25, no chaining up in winter
  • 2019 - 2023 Cascadias with DD15 / DT-12 powertrains
    • 72” double bunk sleepers… APU's…Refrigerators/freezers… 1,500-Watt inverters
