Job description

Salary: $35-$40/hour DOE

Job Title:Crane Operator


Must reside within the Greater Richmond Area to apply.


Responsibilities:

  • Operate mobile cranes, primarily 75110-ton Rough Terrain cranes in a lay-down yard to facilitate the safe and efficient loading/unloading of large equipment, such as HVAC condensers, chillers, generators, transformers, and other oversized industrial components.
  • Operategantry cranesto safely lift, maneuver, and position heavy, oversized, and irregularly balanced loads with shifting or precarious weight distribution.
  • Evaluate load stability, center of gravity, rigging configurations, and weight distribution prior to lifting operations to ensure safe handling of complex loads.
  • Perform critical lifts and tandem lift operations in accordance with lift plans and established safety procedures.
  • Operate other heavy equipment such as lulls, forklifts, and rigging equipment.
  • Operator is responsible for yard layout management, crane positioning, and lift planning.
  • Lift, move, and position materials and equipment using cranes and associated rigging equipment.
  • Select and inspect proper rigging hardware including slings, shackles, spreader bars, and lifting devices to ensure load security and stability.
  • Inspect cranes, rigging gear, and equipment before each use to ensure proper functioning and compliance with safety standards.
  • Lead and conduct daily pre-lift safety briefings and hazard assessments.
  • Communicate effectively with riggers, spotters, signal persons, and team members to coordinate lifting operations safely and efficiently.
  • Candidate shall have a reasonable commute to Sandston, VA and have reliable transportation to the job site.
  • Assist with shipping and receiving tasks in the warehouse as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Valid NCCCO or NCCER crane operator certification/license REQUIRED.
  • Experience operating gantry cranes, rough terrain cranes, forklifts, and other heavy equipment.
  • Experience handling oversized, high-value, irregularly weighted, or precariously balanced loads preferred.
  • Experience in crane and heavy equipment operation (3+ years preferred).
  • Ability to identify load instability risks and safely adjust rigging and lift configurations accordingly.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, crane safety standards, and safe rigging procedures related to crane operation.
  • Ability to formulate and execute detailed lifting plans for complex or critical lifts.
  • Experience utilizing standard hand signals and radio communication during lifting operations.
  • Strong situational awareness and decision-making skills in high-risk lifting environments.
  • Attention to detail to ensure precise positioning of materials and equipment.
  • Ability to work safely in fast-paced industrial, warehouse, and outdoor environments.
