Meter Operations Supervisor
Position Summary: The Meter Operations Supervisor is responsible for planning, coordinating, supervising, and participating in the daily operations of the Meter Operations team. This position ensures high-quality work, compliance with established policies and procedures, and the reliable operation of the Authority's Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system. The supervisor oversees meter reading, testing, installation, maintenance, data integrity, inventory management, budgeting, and customer service while providing leadership, training, and technical support to staff. This position also performs complex technical work and serves as a key resource for meter operations, system analytics, and process improvements.
Duties Include: Supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates Meter Operations staff; establishes standard operating procedures; approves timesheets, leave requests, overtime, and work orders; addresses performance issues and provides technical guidance; Oversees meter reading operations, maintains billing schedules, ensures the accuracy and integrity of meter reading data, manages work orders in Cityworks, maintains GIS and meter databases, develops reading routes, prepares operational reports, and analyzes AMI system performance; Maintains and troubleshoots Sensus Analytics and RNI systems; coordinates with technical support; identifies and resolves meter and radio communication issues; tracks equipment failures; prepares meter specifications; manages inventory, materials, invoices, and departmental budget; Performs and oversees installation, replacement, repair, and testing of water and hydrant meters; investigates leaks, abnormal consumption, and customer complaints; performs service connections and disconnections; calibrates gas monitoring equipment; works in confined spaces; represents the Authority in water theft court proceedings; performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Some college coursework and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in meter operations, utility field operations, or a related field; Thorough knowledge of water meter installation, maintenance, testing, repair, reading practices, utility operations, county geography, construction standards, utility billing processes, GIS, AMI systems, Cityworks, Munis, and computer applications used for data collection and reporting; Ability to supervise, train, motivate, and evaluate employees; exercise sound judgment and initiative; communicate effectively; analyze technical information; adapt to changing technology; and establish effective working relationships with customers, coworkers, contractors, and the public; Valid driver's license required. CPR, First Aid, and Confined Space certifications required or ability to obtain within established timeframe. Ability to perform office and field work, work outdoors in varying weather conditions and wear required uniform and personal protective equipment.
Starting Salary Range $77,622 - $93,146
