We're scaling something new at Saltbox, and the earliest shift is where it starts. This location runs a dock sorting operation that unloads, presorts, scans, and dispatches thousands of packages before most people are awake, and we need reliable people to run it.

As a Dock Sortation Specialist, you're the execution engine of the early dock. You unload inbound freight, presort packages by batch and market, scan every item into a handheld device, and stage sorted loads so drivers roll out on time. Your job is to keep the early dock moving: unloading, presorting, and staging packages before sunrise so every load is scanned, sorted, and dispatched on time.

This shift clears the biggest bottleneck in the operation, inbound unload and presort. Getting it right is how this site grows from processing 5 to 6 thousand packages a day to 8 thousand without missing a dispatch window. You'll be on the ground floor of a function we're building out, and the crew that runs it well sets the standard every other location follows.

What the job looks like

Your shift starts at 3:00am. You'll unload inbound freight, presort it by batch and market, and scan each package into the Sort App on a handheld device. From 3:00am to 8:00am the focus is getting everything sorted and staged; from 8:00am the focus shifts to dispatch as drivers pick up their loads. It's physical, fast, detail-driven work with a small, tight crew, and when the packages are out the door your shift is done, usually a 5 to 6 hour day.

What you will own

Inbound unload & presort

• Unload inbound freight at the start of your shift and stage it for sorting, keeping the dock clear and organized as volume comes in.
• Presort packages by batch and market so the sort line moves without backups.
• Flag damaged, mislabeled, or missing packages to the Lead the moment you spot them.

Package scanning & sortation

• Scan every package using the Sort App on a handheld device, two scans each: presort and bin assignment.
• Hold a target of 225 units per hour (UPH), scanning each package twice for presort and bin assignment.
• Sort packages into the correct shelving unit or bin by batch and market assignment. Missorts delay drivers and risk SLA breaches, so accuracy comes first.

Staging & dispatch

• Move sorted batches to the driver handoff zone before the dispatch window opens.
• Assist with dispatch scanning from 8:00am as drivers pick up their loads.
• Help ensure all routes are dispatched by 11:00am, with 99.5% of packages out the door.

Workspace stewardship

• Keep the sortation and dock area clean, organized, and safe for the full shift.
• Return handheld devices and equipment to their proper positions at shift end.
• Help count on-hand packages at shift end and flag any discrepancies to the Lead right away.

How we measure success

• 225 units per hour (UPH) sustained through your shift, keeping pace without cutting corners on accuracy.
• Inbound freight unloaded and fully sorted by 8:00am, presorting is only half the job.
• All routes dispatched by 11:00am, with 99.5% of packages out the door.
• Accuracy on bin and market assignment, missorts caught before they ever reach a driver.
• On-hand package counts reconciled and discrepancies flagged the same shift.
• Consistent attendance and on-time 3:00am starts, the shift depends on a full crew.

What you bring

• Comfortable using AI tools, Claude, ChatGPT, voice assistants, on the floor to answer questions, translate, and draft communications. If you're new to this, willing to learn quickly.
• Able to reliably start shifts at 3:00am on the schedule set by your location.
• Ability to stand for 5+ hours and lift or move packages up to 50 lbs, reasonable accommodation provided.
• Comfortable using handheld scanning devices and mobile apps, and quick to learn new tools.
• Reliable transportation to your Saltbox location for an early morning start.
• Dependable and detail-oriented, with a track record of showing up and doing the work with care.
• Prior warehouse, logistics, fulfillment, or retail experience is a plus, but if you've got hustle, we'll train you on the rest.
