Job description
 
The Good Neighbor is seeking reliable, compassionate, and skilled SLS Instructors (Support Staff) to provide one-to-one and two-to-one support to a client who is non-verbal and exhibits significant behavioral support needs. Staff will work as part of a coordinated team to promote safety, communication, and independence in the home and community settings. This position requires patience, professionalism, and the ability to manage challenging behaviors through consistency, empathy, and effective behavioral intervention strategies. 
  
  • The schedules are more flexible than your typical 9-5 job. We have weekend shifts available!
  • We are currently looking for various weekday, weekend, and overnight shifts to support a 24-hour care plan. Shifts include afternoon, evening, weekend daytime, and scheduled overnight coverage.
  • Consistent hours are available for candidates with flexible availability. Due to the structured behavioral support plan in place, reliability and schedule consistency are highly valued. 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 1-2 years of experience working with adults with disabilities, particularly those with behavioral challenges.
  • Must have or within two (2) weeks of hire, present 40 units of behavior training certificate. If you possess a certificate, it must be within five (5) years of your hire date. 
  • Strong understanding of behavioral intervention strategies. 
  • Demonstrated ability to de-escalate and redirect highly behavioral individuals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting effectively with individuals, families, and agency personnel.
  • Experience implementing Behavior Support Plans.
  • Must complete daily progress notes and actively participate in Special Incident Reports, when applicable. 
  • Must have flexibility in scheduling and willingness to work evenings, weekends or holidays when required.
  • Ability to remain calm and therapeutic during crisis situations.
  • Physically able to safely redirect and block when necessary.

Staff Must Be Skilled In:

  • Crisis prevention and intervention
  • Early recognition of behavioral escalation
  • Safe blocking and redirection techniques
  • Functional communication prompting using gestures and sign
  • Maintaining structure and predictable routines

Ideal Candidate:

You are patient, firm, observant, and proactive. You understand that communication barriers can increase frustration and know how to use structured routines, visual supports, and calm redirection to prevent escalation. 
This is not an entry-level position. We are looking for professionals who are confident working with high behavioral intensity and who prioritize safety, dignity and consistency.
Certifications:

  • CPR and First Aid (required)
  • Valid California Driver’s License and reliable transportation
  • DOJ/FBI Live Scan background clearance
  • Current TB test and Health Screening clearance
  • RBT certification with 3–5 years of hands-on experience
