Job description

Job Summary:
Tesla is seeking a Steering Controls Vehicle Test Engineer to help shape the future of steering technology. The role involves testing and validating safety-critical steering control software across multiple vehicle platforms and collaborating with engineers to ensure systems meet safety standards and deliver exceptional performance.
Responsibilities:
• Execute in-vehicle test cases to validate steering control systems
• Provide in-vehicle controllability assessments for prototype steering software
• Design and develop new test cases and procedures for electric power assisted steering and steer-by-wire systems
• Document both objective measurements and subjective feedback on vehicle behavior
• Build a strong understanding of steering software to translate changes into updated test requirements
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineers on software and hardware changes, solutions, and requirements
• Travel seasonally to global proving grounds (approximately 30%)
• Apply proficiency in software development workflows, including compiling software, tuning parameters, and independently investigating issues
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar areas of study, or equivalent experience
• Hands-on experience with vehicle testing, racing, or at-limit driving
• Strong written communication skills for clear documentation and reporting
• Ability to work independently and deliver results against high-level goals without daily oversight
• Proving Ground certification
• Experience with software scripting (Python or similar)
• Familiarity with Vector CAN tools (CANape, CANalyzer), data logging systems, and electronic diagnostic equipment such as oscilloscopes
• Experience using Git Version Control
