Position Overview
Performs various tasks relating to the transport of passengers in a passenger bus for District 6. This is a part-time, on call, as needed position. Must be able to adhere to a flexible schedule. Must be available for out-of-town, overnight, and weekend and/or multiple-day trips.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
(All duties listed may not be included in any one position nor does the list include all tasks found in a position of this class.)
  • Operates a tour bus safely and efficiently.
  • Assists passengers in boarding and exiting vehicle, if required.
  • Monitors traffic and weather conditions and notifies dispatch of potential problems.
  • Reports accidents or other safety situations to dispatch.
  • Reports malfunctioning items or damage on a vehicle.
  • Inspects exterior and interior of vehicle at beginning of each shift for properly operating headlights, turn signals, brake lights, air conditioning or heating, mirror adjustment; properly inflated tires, windshield wipers, vehicle damage, etc. prior to moving vehicle.
  • Responsible for ensuring inside and outside of vehicle are properly cleaned and fueled on an ongoing basis.
  • Keeps interior of vehicle neat and orderly.

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience in the operation of a passenger bus.
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse group of people.
  • Knowledge of requirements and standards related to the safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles.
  • Skill in the operation of commercial vehicles.
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local traffic laws and regulations governing the operation of a commercial passenger vehicle.
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance on small commercial vehicles and to identify vehicle problems and malfunctions.
  • Knowledge of basic first aid and/or CPR techniques.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Excellent navigation skills.

Physical Requirements
  • Must have the mobility to drive a tour bus
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
Certifications or Licenses Required
  • Must be at least 21 years of age and must possess a valid Alabama Driver's License.
  • Must have a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with passenger endorsement
  • A satisfactory driving record that demonstrates a commitment to safety with no more than 2 moving violations and no accidents within the previous three years and no suspensions, disqualifications, or revocations
  • Minimum of two years, verifiable experience operating commercial or large vehicles or verified completion of a qualified, comprehensive driver training program
  • Must maintain a good driving record with the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
  • Must take and successfully complete a drug screen and physical.
  • Must have no prior history of drug/alcohol abuse or addiction.
  • Must not have been convicted of a felony, crime of moral turpitude, or a driving offense involving alcohol or other drug.

Schedule
  • As needed; weekend flexibility; up to 29 hours per week
