What does an overnight tech support do?

An Overnight Tech Support professional provides technical assistance to customers or employees during nighttime hours, typically outside of regular business operations. Their responsibilities include troubleshooting technical issues, resolving system outages, responding to help desk tickets, and ensuring that critical IT systems remain operational overnight. This role is essential in organizations that operate 24/7 or need around-the-clock technical coverage to support global operations or maintain uptime.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an overnight tech support?

To thrive as an Overnight Tech Support specialist, you need strong troubleshooting abilities, technical knowledge of hardware and software, and typically a degree or certification in IT or a related field. Familiarity with remote desktop tools, ticketing systems like Zendesk or ServiceNow, and common operating systems is essential. These competencies ensure prompt resolution of technical issues and reliable support for users during off-peak hours.

What are some common challenges faced by overnight tech support, and how can they be addressed?

Overnight Tech Support professionals often encounter unique challenges such as limited access to on-site resources, handling escalated or unresolved issues from earlier shifts, and managing periods of low supervision. Job description

JOB TITLE: Overnight Street Sweeper (CDL-B) – Full-Time

LOCATION: Tampa, FL

HOURS: 3rd Shift

COMPENSATION: $20 / Hour

TRAVEL: Minimal (1-10%)

Who we are:

Sweeping Corporation of America (SCA) is the nation’s leading street sweeping company, operating in over 20 states and supporting more than 600 municipalities, counties, and government agencies. With over six million miles serviced annually, SCA is uniquely focused on the delivery of high-performance street sweeping, jet-vac, and environmental services. SCA has built its entire organization, its people, processes, technology, and investments around providing uninterrupted, accountable, and results-driven services tailored to the needs of our clients. Our mission is to provide essential sweeping and environmental services that support cleaner, safer, and more sustainable communities.

Your daily impact:

As our next Street Sweeper, you'll be at the heart of our mission—delivering essential services that help improve public safety and enhance environmental quality. In this role, you’ll take ownership of assigned routes, drive the street sweeper, and operate specialized equipment to keep streets clean and well-maintained.

The job responsibilities below outline the core duties and expectations of a position, providing clarity on how the role supports Company goals. However, not all duties can be listed, and as business needs evolve, responsibilities may shift over time to reflect new priorities, processes, or technologies:

  • Safety & Inspection: Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections of equipment in accordance with company standards. Ensure all safety features are operational before beginning route.
  • Execution: Review assigned routes thoroughly prior to departure. Be proactive in asking clarifying questions if the route or expectations are unclear. Complete assigned jobs within the allotted timeframe while maintaining expected quality and attention to detail.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate equipment safely and efficiently at all times, following all traffic laws, company safety procedures, and site-specific protocols. Exercise additional caution during inclement weather or challenging site conditions.
  • Material Handling: Handle materials safely and securely; Apply correct procedures for material types and disposal sites.
  • Reporting: Report any equipment issues, malfunctions, near misses, crashes, or injuries within 30 minutes or as soon as safely possible. Immediately escalate opportunities, work issues, or safety concerns to management.
  • Professional Communication: Maintain a professional attitude and appearance while representing the company on job sites or in public areas. Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients when needed.
  • Compliance & Documentation: Accurately complete required logs, manifests, and forms.
  • Adaptability & Problem Solving: Respond appropriately to changes and challenges; identify and solve issues timely.
  • Regular & Predictable Attendance: The ability to consistently report to work on time and as scheduled, with minimal unexcused absences. This includes being present and prepared to work throughout assigned shifts, and reliably adhering to start times, breaks, and end times.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Minimum job qualifications define the essential skills, experience, and abilities needed to succeed in the role. They set the baseline for hiring but may evolve as the job and business requirements change:

  • Education: High School or GED
  • Experience: 1 year DOT driving experience – waste & recycling services experience preferred
  • License: CDL-B & DOT Medical Card
  • Age: Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Compliance: Must maintain an acceptable driving record and successfully pass a motor vehicle record (MVR) check, background check, and drug screening in accordance with Company policy and applicable law.

Skills & Competencies:

Skills and competencies define the abilities and behaviors essential for success in the role. They guide performance expectations and may evolve as the role, team, or business priorities change:

  • Safety & Compliance Focus: Ability to follow safety procedures, conduct inspections, operate equipment responsibly, and comply with all traffic, site, and regulatory requirements.
  • Operational Execution & Reliability: Strong ability to plan routes, complete work efficiently and accurately, adapt to changing conditions, and maintain consistent, dependable attendance.
  • Communication & Issue Reporting: Effectively communicate with supervisors and teammates, represent the Company professionally, and promptly report equipment issues, incidents, or safety concerns.

Safety is #1:

Our safety culture is more than a policy—it’s a mindset. We have a full-time safety team, rigorous training programs, and detailed operating procedures to protect our people and the communities we serve. You’ll be supported from Day One with the tools and knowledge to work confidently and safely.

Here’s what we’ve got in our hopper:

  • 401(k) with Match: Plan for the long haul—retirement is another kind of clean sweep.
  • Weekly Pay: Consistent weekly pay you can count on, plus on-demand pay so you can access earned wages when you need them.
