Position Summary:

The Regional Director (RD), Neurology, will lead a team of UltraCare Liaisons (UCLs) responsible for the successful launch, commercialization, and growth of Ultragenyx's Neurology portfolio. This leader will establish a high-performing team culture that aligns with Ultragenyx values and is focused on patient impact, compliance, accountability, and execution excellence. The RD will drive regional business performance through strategic planning, coaching, customer engagement, and cross-functional collaboration while supporting access and adoption within the rare neurology community. The Regional Director will report directly to the National Field Leader, Neurology. 

The territory for this role includes: Baltimore, Cleveland, Detroit, Louisville, Philadelphia West, Pittsburgh, and Richmond.

Work Model: 

Field: Officially documented as working as a member of the Ultragenyx field team, generally interacting with third parties on behalf of Ultragenyx. 

Responsibilities:
  • Recruit, develop, coach, and retain a high-performing, diverse team of Neurology-focused commercial field professionals.  
  • Lead regional business planning and execution to achieve launch, growth, and performance objectives aligned with national commercial strategy.  
  • Drive launch readiness and post-launch execution, ensuring excellence in customer engagement, account planning, and team preparedness.  
  • Coach field team members through regular field visits, performance reviews, and development planning to strengthen capabilities and execution.  
  • Ensure team expertise in rare neurologic diseases, patient identification, treatment pathways, market access, reimbursement, and site-of-care dynamics.  
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with healthcare providers, Centers of Excellence, integrated health systems, advocacy organizations, and other key stakeholders.  
  • Partner cross-functionally with Medical Affairs, Market Access, Patient Services, Marketing, Commercial Operations, and other stakeholders to optimize patient access and business outcomes.  
  • Analyze market trends, competitive activity, customer insights, and business performance data to inform regional strategy and decision-making.  
  • Manage regional resources, budgets, meetings, training initiatives, and commercial activities in compliance with company policies and industry regulations.  
  • Foster a patient-first, compliant, and collaborative culture while leading organizational change, innovation, and continuous improvement. 
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.  
  • 7+ years of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, rare disease, or specialty field leadership experience with a track record of commercial success.  
  • Rare disease experience required; rare neurology experience strongly preferred.  
  • Experience launching and/or commercializing highly specialized therapies, including ASO, gene therapy, or other advanced treatments, preferred.  
  • Demonstrated success building, coaching, and developing high-performing teams while promoting accountability, compliance, and talent growth.  
  • Strong understanding of rare disease patient journeys, diagnosis pathways, treatment administration, reimbursement, market access, and site-of-care considerations.  
  • Experience working with academic medical centers, Centers of Excellence, infusion networks, multidisciplinary care teams, and complex healthcare systems preferred.  
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic account plans and translate data-driven insights into actionable business strategies.  
  • Strong cross-functional leadership, collaboration, and influencing skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.  
  • High ethical standards, strong business acumen 
  • Approximately 60-70% travel is required including overnight travel as needed
