Software Engineer

Location: On-Site (Batesville, IN)

Employment Type: Full-Time, W-2 with Benefits

Reports To: Senior Leadership

Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with experience

About Aquila

Aquila Corporation is a fast-growing engineering and construction firm that designs and builds next-generation telecom and fiber-optic infrastructure. Founded in 2019, we began by performing site acquisition and permitting for 5G small cell networks. Within a year we expanded into full A&E design services, and by 2022 we were designing complete fiber-optic networks for Internet Service Providers. In 2023 we added construction services — and today, with around 120 employees, we’re continuing to grow rapidly as an integrated design-build partner for telecom providers across the U.S.

Aquila combines engineering precision with the agility of a startup. We leverage modern tools, data, and technology to bring broadband infrastructure to life efficiently, intelligently, and at scale.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Software Engineer who is eager to learn, build, and make an impact.

This role begins by shadowing our senior leadership to understand the systems that power every aspect of Aquila’s operations — from design and construction workflows to project management and data automation. Over time, you’ll take ownership of developing and improving these systems, and if desired, eventually lead a team of software engineers to expand our internal tools and integrations.

You’ll work closely with leadership to design and roll out technology solutions that streamline how our teams design fiber networks, manage projects, coordinate construction, and deliver results for clients nationwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, deploying, and maintaining company-wide systems that support design, construction, and business operations.
  • Collaborate directly with leadership to translate real-world engineering and field needs into practical software and workflow solutions.
  • Participate in system rollouts, documentation, and training across multiple teams.
  • Help manage integrations between engineering, project management, and data systems.
  • Contribute to future team growth by mentoring and coordinating with additional software engineers as the team grows.
  • Troubleshoot and continuously improve internal tools to increase reliability, efficiency, and usability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, and/or equivalent experience
  • Python and Java coding experience
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Self-starter mentality — highly motivated, resourceful, and willing to learn new technologies quickly.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.

ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION For:

  • Experience with ESRI’s proprietary coding language, Arcade
  • Experience with open-source platform Odoo
  • Experience with database development.
  • Familiarity with tools such as CAD, ArcGIS, or FileMaker.
  • Experience using macOS or developing in an Apple ecosystem.

Why Join Aquila

  • Opportunity to help shape the systems that drive a rapidly growing company.
  • Exposure to both the engineering and software sides of real-world infrastructure projects.
  • Collaborative, entrepreneurial culture where initiative and creativity are valued.
  • Competitive pay and comprehensive healthcare benefits.
