Job description

The Overnight Security Guard helps support the overall safety and security of the hotel during overnight hours. This role includes patrolling the property, responding to guest and employee concerns, monitoring hotel activity, completing incident reports, and helping ensure the hotel remains secure, calm, and welcoming throughout the night.

The right person for this role will be observant, approachable, and steady. Hotel security is about being aware, professional, and prepared to respond when something needs attention.

What You’ll Do

  • Patrol and monitor hotel areas, including guest floors, entrances, stairwells, parking areas, service areas, and back-of-house spaces.
  • Maintain a visible, professional, and approachable presence throughout the property.
  • Respond to security-related calls, disturbances, medical situations, fire alarms, guest concerns, and other incidents according to hotel procedures.
  • Assist guests and team members with safety-related concerns, directions, escorts, and general support as needed.
  • Monitor security systems, access points, alarms, and property conditions during the overnight shift.
  • Complete accurate written reports for incidents, accidents, injuries, losses, property damage, or unusual activity.
  • Help secure hotel areas after business functions or events conclude.
  • Identify and report maintenance, cleaning, safety, or security concerns observed during patrols.
  • Communicate professionally with hotel departments, management, and local law enforcement when needed.
  • Provide basic first aid assistance when needed until medical professionals arrive.
  • Safely operate the hotel shuttle in accordance with company policies (when assigned).
  • Support hotel operations by assisting with guest service tasks as needed while maintaining a safe and secure environment.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in security, law enforcement, public safety, corrections, military service, loss prevention, hotel operations, or a similar role is strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required. 
  • CPR and first aid certification preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and stay alert during overnight hours.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with guests, team members, and outside responders.
  • Ability to remain calm and use sound judgment during challenging situations.
  • Reliable attendance, positive attitude, and commitment to providing excellent guest service.
  • Ability to walk, stand, patrol the property, use stairs, and respond throughout the hotel during the shift.
