POSITION SUMMARY:
Residency nurses will initiate professional nursing practice careers in a supportive environment committed to mentoring, coaching and learning. They will build confidence through a structured, professional transition-into-practice experience that is customized to individual developmental needs. They will also develop leadership skills that will positively impact the clinical practice environment and patient outcomes.They will provide safe and effective nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process. Must practice nursing under the direct supervision of a registered nurse during their orientation period.
POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School/GED required.

• Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing
• Temporary GN permit or RN license from the State of Texas prior to beginning employment required.
• Current BLS certification
• ACLS certification within three (3) months after transfer into home based department (as applicable to department)
• PALS certification within six (6) months after transfer into home based department (as applicable to department)

• Good written and verbal communication skills required.

• Nights and/or weekend work will be required

• Bilingual - English/Spanish preferred

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE:
• New graduate nurse or RN with less than 12 months experience
• RN with limited or no hospital experience

• Knowledge of State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations.

•B. Working Conditions: The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.
C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
