Description:
The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame.
The RN provides care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process, nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.
The RN performs all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service.
The RN implements procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
The RN maintains up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure the integration of information for use by the healthcare team.
The RN completes an initial assessment upon patient admission and develops an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards that is based on patient and family needs.
The RN implements the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
The RN modifies the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation.
The RN takes responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
The RN communicates with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues.
The RN offers constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confers with colleagues to expand knowledge base.
The RN identifies own learning needs and takes initiative to begin appropriate solutions.
The RN fulfills all requirements of departmental competencies.
The RN prepares the operating room for the patient, including supplies, equipment, medications, and other needs.
The RN interviews the patient by utilizing two identifiers (name and date of birth).
The RN transports the patient to the appropriate operating room and onto the operating table using safety precautions.
The RN performs timeouts upon entry of the operating room, prior to incision, and prior to exiting the operating room suite.
The RN appropriately positions and prepares the patient for the procedure utilizing positional aides and guidelines.
The RN supports the surgical team during the procedure by responding to requests for extra supplies, blood, specimens, cultures, other medications, dressings, etc.
The RN transports the patient to recovery or specific unit and provides handoff to the receiving RN.
The RN may be floated to General OR if not needed in the CVOR service line.
The RN is required to remain in the department unless on break to be available for patient care needs.
