Summary:
The RN - Interventional Radiology is expected to practice autonomously within the scope of professional standards, the rules, and regulations established by the Tennessee Board of Nursing, and knowledge of policies and procedures within Ballad Health. The RN will demonstrate skill in developing and guiding collaborative collegial practice that delivers safe competent care based on meticulous application of the nursing process. The RN will demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of the diverse cultural backgrounds of patients and caregivers. The position involves maintaining current knowledge of evidence based nursing practice and the ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills in the implementation of all phases of the nursing process. The RN will actively participate in patient care quality and performance improvement through data collections, aggregation and analysis of relevant key indicators of quality. The RN will serve as a professional role model as a caregiver, mentor, teacher and resource for peers, students and other providers.
The RN will assist the radiologists and other proceduralists and serves as liaison between Diagnostic Imaging and Nursing Services.
The RN will prepare patients for both neuro and peripheral interventional procedures by reviewing the patient's medical history, lab values, checking vital signs, medications, NPO status and alleviating patients' anxiety. The RN will insert and remove intravenous lines. The RN will provide care to patients at a 1 to 1 nurse- to-patient ratio during CT, Ultrasound, MRI and Interventional Radiology procedures. The RN will assist with circulator duties during procedures. The RN will perform duties related to pre, intra, and post-procedural patient assessments, and monitoring of patients who require these procedures. The RN will provide moderate sedation under the direct supervision of a physician. Safety and patient monitoring must be a priority during this phase. The RN must be able to think critically, correlate vital signs, and quickly react to any changes in the patients' status to ensure the provision of safe and effective care. The RN will support the management of stable and unstable patients. The RN will provide post-procedure monitoring to observe for signs and symptoms of complications, such as bleeding from the puncture site, pain, and changes in vital signs or mental status. The RN will provide education to the patient and family which includes ensuring the patient and family understand the procedure, the plan of care and providing them with discharge instructions.
The RN will respond promptly on-call to emergent procedures.
The RN will be asked to contribute to the provision of continuing education relating to patient care for department technologists and will maintain professional work relationships with all Diagnostic Imaging team members. The RN will coordinate and integrate aspects of care for all patients, ages ranging from neonate to geriatrics. The RN will assist in developing patient care standards for Diagnostic Imaging.
The RN will work with supervisors as a patient advocate and care manager/resource provider.
Requirements:
Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited Nursing program. Must be able to complete job related competencies as deemed necessary to the performance of the RN Interventional Radiology's role in the department of employment.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid and active RN licensure in appropriate state.
CPR required, ACLS and PALS required.
