Job description

Are you an experienced attorney ready to bring your litigation expertise in-house? Publix Super Markets, Inc. is seeking a General Liability Attorney to join our corporate legal team, not a law firm-where you'll be embedded in the business and directly influence how we manage risk across our retail operations in eight states.
This is a corporate counsel role, ideal for someone who has worked within a company's legal or risk management department, not just representing them from the outside. If you've partnered with an internal litigation management team and understand the unique challenges of retail liability, we want to hear from you.
Publix Super Markets, Inc. is the largest employee-owned company in the United States, with ownership shared through a robust Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Founded in 1930, Publix has grown into a retail powerhouse with over 1,400 stores and more than 260,000 associates, all of whom have a vested interest in the company's success. This unique ownership structure fosters a collaborative environment and empowers associates at every level, shaping the values-driven, customer-focused culture that sets Publix apart in the grocery industry.
Why Publix?

  • Be part of a Fortune 100 company with a strong commitment to legal integrity and operational excellence.
  • Join a collaborative legal team that values innovation, accountability, and professional growth.
  • At Publix's corporate offices, we value in-person collaboration and connection. Specific remote work arrangements vary by business area and should be discussed with the leader during the phone screen or interview process.
What You'll Do:
  • Manage the defense of customer, consumer, and public lawsuits from within the company.
  • Oversee a wide range of liability matters including premises, fleet, pharmacy, and product claims.
  • Develop and refine internal litigation processes and policies for attorney-represented and litigated claims.
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to senior leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Oversee legal cost management and collaborate with outside counsel as needed.
  • Monitor legal trends and regulatory changes impacting our operations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents and contracts.
  • Mentor legal team members and contribute to a culture of excellence.
